New separable connection systems from 3M
Two products to look out for
Invisible connections are in demand today whenever both an attractive finish and a permanent bond are required, for example for exhibition and shop-fitting constructions, for decorations or signage. Two established products with a new twist are now the ones to look for if you need these properties – the 3M Dual Lock flexible pressure seal and the 3M Scotchmate hook and loop tape.
Both have proven themselves in countless applications in the past, but were simply too thick for many modern applications. If only low adhesive force and few opening and resealing cycles are required, the white 3M Scotchmate hook and loop tape with a thickness of just one millimetre is perfectly adequate. All it requires is gentle pressure to connect the hooks on the one tape to the loops on the other. Both tapes have in common their acrylate adhesive, which will provide a good bond even on low energy surfaces such as PP and PE, and also on powder-coated materials.
The new, thin version of the transparent 3M Dual Lock flexible pressure seal offers just as good an adhesive force. It measures
1.7 mm in height and can be opened and resealed up to 50 times. Both sides of this product are identical . The mushroom-shaped heads interlock with one another when pressed together.
Both these connection systems can now provide help in these new applications to avoid the problems of conventional fastening systems, for example screws and rivets, which can spoil an otherwise fine appearance. The new 3M Scotchmate hook and loop tape can withstand temperatures of up to 70°C and is available in widths of between 19.1 and 150 mm. Depending on the type of adhesive the new 3M Dual Lock flexible pressure seal can be exposed to temperatures of up to 95 °C. It is available in widths of up to 300 mm.
