New acrylic Altuglas® resins for construction-industry mouldings
Altuglas International, Arkema’s subsidiary world leader in PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate), manufactures and markets new acrylic resins for mouldings for the construction industry (windows, gates, fencing and shutters, etc), using a process of co-extrusion with PVC.
The Altuglas® grade is co-extruded as a surface layer on a PVC substrate. Its function is to protect the substrate and give it very high resistance to weathering. This enables production of a range of colours that are normally difficult in PVC, with improved scratch resistance and the option of controlled levels of gloss, as well as surface effects with the Altuglas® Frosted and matt grades.
Two Arkema Group Business Units, Altuglas International and Alphacan, have come together to develop PVC wall claddings, to be marketed from the end of 2007. These will be produced in a range of colours using a co-extrusion process, combining a PVC substrate with new surface-effect Altuglas® resins.
