AVERY DENNISON LAUNCHES FASSON S2065 HOT MELT ADHESIVE: IDEAL SOLUTION FOR LOW-TEMPERATURE FOOD PACKAGING LABEL APPLICATIONS

Leiden, The Netherlands - Avery Dennison has developed a new hotmelt adhesive for its self-adhesive labelstocks specifically formulated for cool-temperature air-blown label dispensing, particularly in the food packaging industry. Fasson S2065 combines high tack with strong ultimate adhesion characteristics on a variety of substrates -- including apolar films, sausage casings, stretch PVC and PE and modified atmosphere films -- at temperatures as low as 1-10 deg C.

Specially for foods

With the needs of the food packaging industry in mind, Fasson S2065 is offered as standard with two Fasson facestocks: a standard machine coated paper, Fasson MC Primecoat, where multi-colour label print is required; and Fasson Thermal Top K8P -- which is oil, moisture, alcohol, and plasticiser resistant -- for straightforward direct thermal variable information labels.

Fasson S2065 complies with BfR XXI and FDA 175.105 food contact requirements in relation to dry and moist non-fatty foods. With a service temperature of -40 deg C to +50 deg C, the adhesive is suitable for use on frozen foods as well as a variety of retail food trays and other prepacks.

With S2065, labels on these facestocks can be dispensed at speeds of up to 150 labels per minute in air-blown label application systems.

Conversion characteristics

Fasson Thermal Top K8P S2065 and Fasson Primecoat S2065 -- both supplied as standard with a brown glassine release liner -- offer label converters good on-press characteristics. Fasson Thermal Top K8P S2065 is available via the Fasson Exact service platform, which offers converters the cost-effective benefit of ordering only the exact reel widths they require.

Says Product Manager Gwenaelle Legarrec: 'With Fasson S2065, we have deliberately aimed high in terms of end-use performance while positioning the product in price terms so that it offers real added value for the label printer without a price premium over other Fasson specialty adhesives. We are confident that Fasson S2065 will become the benchmark adhesive for this market segment.'

Fasson S2065 labelstocks are available ex-stock from Avery Dennison, and samples and technical datasheets are available on request via Fasson sales representatives or the website, www.europe.fasson.com.
