AVERY DENNISON'S THIN PET23 LINER NOW AVAILABLE ACROSS A RANGE OF PAPER LABELLING MATERIALS

LEIDEN, the Netherlands - June 6, 2013 - Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials is bringing major sustainability and operational benefits to paper label production, with the launch of its successful thin PET23 liner across a range of popular prime, variable imprint, and wine & spirits paper facestocks.

At just 23 microns thick, the Avery Dennison PET23 liner is currently the thinnest liner on the market. It is leaner, stronger and faster than conventional glassine liners – fully recyclable and also able to boost productivity during both conversion and dispensing. The new products build on extensive experience with filmic liners, which Avery Dennison has been successfully incorporating into its constructions since the 1990s.

“PET23 liner is a big win for the environment and for productivity due to the improvements it offers to high volume, high speed labelling applications,” said Astrid Beckhaus, senior product manager at Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials. “A PET23 liner makes paper labels work harder for both label converters and brand owners, and it brings environmental wins. Those include lower transport emissions and material savings. And our Avery Dennison PET liner recycling programme completes the picture, with recycling available throughout Europe.”

Benefits are immediately apparent when dispensing, with reduced transport costs and fewer reel changes. Users also see less liner waste, fewer misaligned/rejected labels and an important reduction in web breaks. Additionally, there is significantly less paper dust on packaging lines when using PET23. The new liner allows consistent label quality at high speeds and improved label positioning.

Label converters also see important benefits during production – again, transport costs and reel changes are reduced due to the longer reels. The new liner ensures material savings as well as longer production runs. As PET23 is a stronger material than glassine, the liner does not stretch during high speed conversion and it lays flat with reduced hang and curl. This liner even helps print quality, thanks to a smoother surface, and it offers very good resistance to heat.
