AVERY DENNISON BRINGS FSC®-CERTIFIED LABEL PORTFOLIO TO ASIA PACIFIC

SHANGHAI, China – December 12, 2013 – Avery Dennison has brought its Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC)-certified portfolio of paper label materials to the Asia Pacific region. The portfolio is composed of seven specifications featuring three types of paper facestocks: Direct Thermal, Laser and Semigloss Paper.

“As an industry leader, it’s our responsibility to develop, produce and promote products that help decrease environmental impact. The introduction of our FSC-certified portfolio reinforces Avery Dennison’s commitment to offer more sustainable label and packaging solutions and is an important next step in our effort to make our industry more sustainable,” said Georges Gravanis, vice president and general manager, Materials Group - Asia Pacific, Avery Dennison.

Since the beginning of this year, Avery Dennison has added more than 50 new FSC-certified label materials to its global product portfolio. The portfolio now totals more than 150 different constructions, with more expected before the end of the year, that will feature core face stocks used in food, wine, spirits and dairy applications.

The FSC Chain-of-Custody (CoC) process ensures the customer that the materials in the products they purchase are coming from responsibly managed sources. The new additions to the Avery Dennison portfolio will help drive the use of these products throughout the value chain, in more geographies than ever before.

Avery Dennison is one of the 24,000 FSC CoC-certified companies that is able to meet the requirements of what is acknowledged to be the most rigorous and credible forest certification system. In the past, Asia Pacific label converters and brand owners seeking more FSC-certified products had to import them from Europe or North America, which increases the packaging costs and time-to-market. The roll-out of the portfolio in Asia Pacific will benefit current and prospective Avery Dennison customers across the region who are themselves CoC-certified.

The Forest Stewardship Council was founded in 1993 to stop illegal logging and uncontrolled destruction of key environmental resources. Its mission today is to promote environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests. The FSC-certification process follows the trail of the products from forests through the entire supply chain, and verifies that certified materials are identified or separated from non-certified material at all stages.
