Flexible network connection for intelligent automation devices

The new module – which is available as a Profinet I/O device, EtherNet/IP adapter device or EtherCAT slave controller – grants Ethernet access to intelligent automation devices, or enables them to be integrated in network management systems. All models of the EEM are equipped with a switch for two external Fast Ethernet ports, and one internal port to the host CPU. The latter, which has a 50-pole plug connector, can be used to connect the host CPU of the automation device to the CPU of the EEM. Since data communication is via a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), the functionality of the EEM can be adapted to meet customer requirements or technological change without the need to alter the hardware. This makes the new module a practical and versatile option for connecting intelligent automation devices such as motor starters, frequency converters, or sensors to Ethernet networks.

Robust unmanaged 10-port switch

This switch, which also supports automation protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP, possesses ten twisted-pair ports (10/100 BASE-TX) with vibration-proof M12 connections with D-coding. The unit’s additional features include a robust, fire-proof, die-cast housing, protection class IP54 and a temperature range from 40° to +70°C. This switch also complies with all relevant industry standards and is approved for use in road and rail vehicles and ships. This makes it particularly suitable for use in small-scale networks in transport, manufacturing and process automation where management functions are not required.

High contact density despite compact dimensions

Belden has extended its Lumberg Automation™ product range with eight-pole M8 actuator/sensor connectors. (Photo: Belden, PR174) Belden has extended its Lumberg Automation™ product range with the world's first eight-pole M8 actuator/sensor connectors. These connectors, which fulfill all requirements for shock and vibration resistance, are being offered in two variants with molded cables as well as in three field-attachable installation variants. All variants are designed for a temperature range of between -25° and +80°C, and, when screwed together with the appropriate counterparts, meet the requirements of protection type IP67. Owing to the high contact density, up to eight signals can be transmitted with an external power supply, making the new eight-pole M8 actuator/sensor connector especially suitable for connecting optoelectronic sensors or safety switches of the kind used, for example, for monitoring safety doors on machines and systems.

16 PoE/PoE Plus ports per switch

This module, which possesses eight Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX), provides each attached terminal with either 15.4 W (PoE) or 30 W (PoE Plus). The power supply 48 V DC (for PoE) or 52 V DC (for PoE Plus) comes from an external power supply unit. For each MACH100 switch two modules can be used with a total of 16 ports. With PoE Plus, each module can use four ports. It is also possible to operate PoE and PoE Plus ports simultaneously up to a total power of 120 W. This means that the new module offers considerable flexibility. PoE Plus can also be used to power relatively high-rated terminal equipment such as IP cameras with pan-tilt-zoom, Voice over IP videophones or multiband WLAN access points.

Efficient Energy Generation and Distribution

Robust data communications technology from Belden facilitates end-to-end networking of wind energy generation plants. (Photo: Belden, PR169) Modern data communications technology is being increasingly used in the generation and distribution of wind energy, and it is also an indispensible requirement for the implementation of smart grids. As the conditions at wind energy plants are just as harsh and rugged as in any other industrial environment, the infrastructure components and systems need to be able to cope with extreme stresses. That is why the network, connection and cabling technology offered by Belden and its Hirschmann™ and Lumberg Automation™ brands, which have already amply demonstrated their reliability in the field of industrial automation, are also the components of choice for data communications in wind energy plants.

At the new facility, frequencies of up to 40 GHz can be measured, something that only very few test labs in Germany are capable of currently.

Clear identification of interfaces

Clear identification of interfaces with the proven CA series from Hirschmann™
(Photo Belden, BLDPR170)The renowned circular connectors from the Hirschmann™ CA series that were previously only available in black can now be ordered from Belden in red, white and blue. This makes it possible to clearly label power supply, measurement and control interfaces, even when they all use the same basic connector. The CA circular connectors are all UL- and VDE-approved, and thanks to their compact construction they are currently the smallest connectors on the market. Other features include a temperature range from 40 to +90°C and – provided they are correctly mounted and screwed together – protection category IP67. Meaning that these connectors can be used wherever maximum reliability is critical, for instance in machine building, traffic engineering and renewable energy applications.
