Belden presents new OBR40 optical bypass relay from its Hirschmann Brand

Neckartenzlingen, Germany - June 25, 2013 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has launched the new OBR40 optical bypass relay from its Hirschmann product range. Suitable for use even in harsh environmental conditions, this relay ensures that optical Ethernet networks, with either ring or line topologies, remain operational after power failures at one or more switches. An internal switch-over mechanism enables data communication to continue seamlessly between neighboring switches. This mechanism even continues to operate when power is cut off to the bypass relay itself. Use of this relay serves to further enhance the availability of Ethernet networks. The relay can also be used to deactivate specific parts of a system, when maintenance work needs to be carried out on individual turbines of a wind farm, for example.

Belden Presents HiView, a New Interface for Hirschmann Switches

Neckartenzlingen, Germany - March 12, 2013 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has introduced HiView in the EMEA region, a new tool that gives access to the graphical user interfaces (GUIs) of managed switches in its Hirschmann range, without the need for a web browser. This tool, which supports a variety of Windows and Linux operating systems, also serves as a client for the network management software Industrial HiVision. Java libraries no longer need to be installed on users’ computers, thus increasing the availability of both the user interface and the network.

Belden Research Shows that Patching for Industrial Cyber Security is a Broken Model

Neckartenzlingen, Germany - April 8, 2013 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, announces that its Tofino Security brand has published new research showing that patching is often ineffective in providing protection from the multitude of vulnerability disclosures and malware targeting critical infrastructure systems today. While patching such systems is important as part of an overall Defense in Depth strategy, the difficulties of patching for industrial systems mean that compensating controls such as Tofino Security Profiles are often a better method of providing immediate protection.
