BeldenCDT focuses on Security
At Sicurezza in Milan, Italy, BeldenCDT introduces a range of new products for use in security, alarm and sound applications. These include:
• BeldenCDT New Generation® security & detection cables
• Access Control BananaPeel® in PVC, Plenum and LSNH versions
• PTZ BananaPeel® cables for Close Circuit TV
• EIB bus and LonWorks™ cables
• ITC line of security cables
According to Erik Holswilder, Market Manager - Industrial, Security and Detection for BeldenCDT, market needs are continually changing the limits of technology: "Nowhere is the demand for uncompromising quality and leading-edge technology more critical than in security applications. So we have created a range of wire and cable products for Security, Detection and Building Management Systems as well as ITC line and Industrial products. Behind every one of these cables lie years of research and development supported by Belden’s reputation for quality and service."
New Generation® security & detection cables comprises one of the largest, most up-to-date and economical ranges of reliable, multi-conductor and coaxial products available in the market today. It consists of cables for sound, control, computer inter-connect, alarm, CCTV and other security applications.
Banana Peel composite cables feature a patent-pending design that affixes the individual cables to a center spline, eliminating the need for an overall jacket. Banana Peel technology was developed by Belden to meet the needs of the installer to save time and decrease labour costs. By eliminating the overall bundle’s jacket, a whole step in the termination process can be removed. In addition, the individual cable components are all instantly identifiable thanks to colour coding and print legends. Individual cables can be “peeled” of the centre spline and terminated. The elimination of the overall jacket reduces the diameter of the composite, so the cable's overall bend radius is improved and use of a smaller size conduit is possible.
BeldenCDT now offers Access Control BananaPeel® in PVC, Plenum and LSNH versions for more cost-effective security installations and PTZ BananaPeel® composite cables for pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) cameras as well as a wide range of single coaxes, coaxial/twisted pair composites and unshielded multi-conductor constructions for fixed cameras in Close Circuit TV and Surveillance installations.
New Generation Banana Peel composite cables for both riser and plenum PTZ applications are comprised of the following components in order to accommodate control encoding schemes or protocols such as Manchester, Sensornet and RS-422:
- Coax (video): 1 RG-59
- 1-pair (power): 18 AWG
- UTP or STP (control): 23 AWG UTP, 22 or 18 AWG STP
Belden’s full line of New Generation cables for fixed-camera Installations includes individual coaxes (including Limited Combustible coax cables) and a composite cable line for video, video/power or control, or video/data fixed-camera applications.
Erik Holswilder: "Wherever you look today — our offices and public spaces such as hospitals, airports, amusement parks, retail establishments, universities, casinos, sports stadiums and correctional facilities all have a surveillance system in place to monitor the people visiting their facilities and the people working within them. But whatever the type of equipment used, the objective of these systems is clear: protect the people involved with the facility and the facility’s assets.
"Although traditional analog cameras are frequently used in security systems, the use of Digital Signal Processed (DSP) cameras is trending upwards — in part because they produce high quality images and they are better able to handle diverse or extreme lighting conditions. Also, camera users typically have more control setting options, plus DVRs (digital video recorders) enable users to quickly sort through their recorded images, while requiring less storage space than videotapes. Both DSP and DVRs could be handled with existing coax technology.
"From an applications standpoint, there are two types of security cameras available: Fixed and PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom). If you consider a CCTV set-up in a casino, the fixed cameras would be appropriate for high-risk, fixed areas — entrances and exits, cash registers, etc. The PTZ cameras are more suited for the gaming tables since the cameras must be made to move or zoom in on a particular exchange at the table or a particular customer.
