VideoFlex® FRNC 1855ENx:

New Belden halogen-free component video cables

Belden has extended its popular Halogen-Free Snake Cable range by introducing VideoFlex® FRNC 1855ENx. The new cable combines important benefits to both users and installers, delivering optimum performance whilst reducing installation time and therefore labor costs.

FRNC 1855ENx performs at higher frequencies for digital applications (SD/HD) and can be used at lower frequencies for analog applications. It can also be used for distributing RGB and Sync signals over extended distances. Cables have a Minimum Return Loss of 24dB at all frequencies up to 1500 MHz and the coaxes are pre-timed to less than 4.0 ns/m delay difference between each coax. The high velocity, low-loss PE dielectric ensures low attenuation over long distances as well as improved timing.

The new VideoFlex® FRNC 1855ENx cable is halogen-free with greater than normal flexibility. Standard bundled halogen-free coax cables are notoriously stiff and difficult to strip for termination, especially when rated for IEC 332-1 use. This new cables overcomes these problems because it is made with flexible halogen-free plastic (rated IEC: 60332-1) with the added advantage of no toxic gases and low smoke density. It can be used inside or at outdoor locations as it is UV resistant and cold flexible in temperatures as low as -40°C.

Werner Eich, Belden EMEA Marketing Manager for Entertainment says: “These new video cables are suitable for a whole variety of digital and analog uses in virtually any situation. They are able to transmit signals over extended distances.”

Mr. Eich adds: "By looking at market needs and applying Belden’s extensive research and development resources, we were able to ensure that these cables deliver the right levels of performance.”

Significant installer benefits

FRNC 1855ENx offers more than excellent performance. There are benefits too for installers. Although this snake cable is comparable in price with cables of similar construction, it offers low attenuation and easier termination, thanks to its solid copper center conductor. The dielectric, surrounded by the foil layer of the shield, can be removed very easily for BNC connectors to minimize any potential for conductor-to-shield shorts; it can also be held in place for RCA and F-style connectors.

The round, uniform, matte black flexible FRNC jacket protects the cable – providing a professional appearance and proper boot fit together with easy flexing for installation and equipment hook-up. Cable jackets are meter-marked –for tracking during installation and coaxes are color-coded to provide easy identification. This broadcast quality cable is constructed with foil under braid shielding, making it easier to terminate.

Typical applications

The new cable is designed for many different applications, especially in tough and demanding situations. Technically, this means it is suitable for High or Standard definition serial digital video; Digital audio (such as AES3id or SPDiF); High resolution RGB component analog video; Studio interconnect; Permanent installation. It is also ideal for multiple runs of composite video signals such as SDI or HDTV and can be used for unbalance mode analog or digital video (AES/EBU).

Typical uses include: High-end computer graphic and animation, Live studio, Field and mobile television broadcasting, Image projection in business meeting-rooms, Command and control centres, Multi-purpose auditorium, Teleconference centers, Home theatres, Performance venues and Post-production facilities.

VideoFlex® FRNC 1855ENx is supplied in an easy-to-install bundle which has the very common European video coaxial dimension of 0.6/0.8. It is available with 250 and 500m put-ups in bundles of 3, 5 and 6 coaxes. The insulation is gas-injected foam HDPE. Shielding is 100% Duofoil combined with 90% tinned copper braid while individual coax jackets and overall jacket are FRNC/LSNH. The cable is designed to fit BNC, RCA and F-style connectors.
