Belden introduces Brilliance® Videotwist® cables
Belden has introduced Brilliance® VideoTwist® cables designed to provide superior pure video, KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) and data transmissions over Unshielded Twisted Pairs (UTPs). They offer low skew performance, reduced low return loss and meet TIA/EIA Category standards.
The new VideoTwist cables offer the high performance solution for professional video/data installations which require low signal skew and low return loss to give the very best performance. This includes NanoSkew in two versions which utilize nonbonded-pairs to provide the best low skew characteristics and the longest distance capability making the cables ideal for high performance, video-only transmission.
In order to distribute component RGB video, traditional systems use bundled coax but increasingly designers are using UTP transmission equipment because it is cheaper than coax. Another advantage is that UTP cable can also be used for premise LAN wiring which eliminates two separate cables.

Belden’s VideoTwist is designed to overcome some major problems associated with standard UTP cable. Because of the way UTP cable is constructed, a signal delay can be caused which is known as skew. Overcoming skew limits the overall transmission distance of the cable to an approximate maximum of 180m (600ft), however, the construction of VideoTwist UTP means that video transmission distances can now be extended to nearly 400m (1300ft) or more, depending on transmission equipment parameters. Cable return loss is also a problem which affects video quality and transmission distance. VideoTwist minimizes this with superior return loss performance which ensures the best video quality.
Brilliance VideoTwist Low Skew UTP cables perform reliably when used in component video displays, standard premise Ethernet installations and blade edge computing/KVM applications. Belden offers three cable types, available in both plenum- and riser–rated versions. Standard NanoSkew uses nonbonded-pairs and provides the best low skew and long distance capability making the cables ideal for high performance, video-only transmissions. The other two cable types both provide the same exceptional video performance for component video, data and KVM applications. One meets TIA/EIA Category 5e Standard while the other meets Category 6.
Normal UTP cable is stressed during routine installation. Nonbonded-pair cables can experience a loss of uniform conductor-to-conductor spacing or performance-robbing gaps can form between the conductors of the pairs.
Because of the way they are constructed, this is impossible with VideoTwist bonded-pairs because the cables cannot separate. This guarantees precise conductor-to-conductor spacing and precise impedance even after difficult installation.
