Belden Offers Efficient Solution for Power over Ethernet

New Hirschmann PoE Injector Allows Devices to be Powered Simply and Efficiently

St. Louis, Missouri - January 23, 2014 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, announces the availability of a new Hirschmann Power over Ethernet (PoE) injector. The new SPIDER Giga 2TX PoE EEC is an efficient solution for powering devices, such as IP cameras, IP telephones or WLAN access points. It makes it possible to expand networks, using PoE functionality without replacing any standard switches, so power can be transported directly via the data cable. As a result, there is no need for sockets/power lines for separate power supply units or PoE switches. The data port of the PoE injector, which supports Gigabit Ethernet, can simply be coupled with a standard switch, and the respective device connected to the PoE port. Since this port can supply up to 30 watts, even devices with higher power consumption can be powered.

The PoE injector features a stable metal housing, an extended temperature range, and high shock, vibration and EMC resistance. This makes it also suitable for use in harsh industrial environments. Possible applications range from mechanical and plant engineering to renewable energy, as well as transportation and security technology. Product Manager Sebastian Preiss remarked: “The Hirschmann SPIDER PoE injector enables all-around flexible and cost-effective solutions. Moreover, support for higher data transfer rates, such as PoE+ and Gigabit Ethernet, guarantee the usefulness of these devices well into the future.”

The SPIDER Giga 2TX PoE EEC is equipped with two RJ45 ports for 10/100/1000 BASE-T, one of which additionally supports PoE+ (max. 30 W in accordance with IEEE802.3at). The metal housing, measuring just 30 x 140 x 95 mm, can be mounted either on DIN rails or on the wall. The PoE injector meets the requirements of industrial protection class IP30 and also includes features such as plug-and-play activation, a temperature range from -40°C to +70°C, and a redundant power supply (24/48 VDC), with LEDs to display the status of its own power supply and that of the PoE port.
