Borealis announces R$18 million investment in Brazil

Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, will invest R$ 18 million in the acquisition of a new extrusion line to enlarge its Itatiba (SP) plant. Borealis has two production units in Brazil located in Itatiba (SP) and Triunfo (RS). The investment, which will serve the automotive and appliances markets, will increase the polypropylene (PP) compounding capacity of the plant by 11,000 tonnes per annum and is due for completion in mid-2008.

Borouge announces launch of the Gulf Plastics Pipe Academy to promote the use of high quality plastics pipe systems

Plastic pipe innovation in the Gulf: Plastic pipe has replaced steel in an innovative project by Oxy Qatar transporting treated water through a submarine pipeline from Halul Island off the Qatar coast. The 2.6km long, 70mm thick pipe is made of Borouge polyethylene material, made by UPI of Abu Dhabi, and installed by APS of Dubai. Borouge today announced the launch of the Gulf Plastics Pipe Academy (GPPA), of which it is a founding member. The GPPA, formally launched by Harald Hammer, CEO, Borouge Pte Ltd at Dubai PlastPro, is set to play an important role in increasing the use of high quality plastics pipe systems in the Middle East.

New DIN standards for water pressure pipes recognise PP-RCT

PP-RCT pipes benefit from a wider internal diameterDuring 2006, the German standards for polypropylene (PP) pressure pipes have been revised. The designations PP-H100, PP-B80 and PP-R80 have been withdrawn as they did not reflect the required behaviour at elevated temperatures and were changed to PP-H, PP-B and PP-R. Also, pioneering PP-RCT has now been officially recognised as a category under the new German standards DIN8077 and DIN8078 for PP pressure pipes. The creation of a new PP-RCT class means that these solutions can now be tested according to a widely accepted quality standard.
