Motoral OY makes 3-in-1 box solution with Borecene Compact™
Using Borecene Compact™ RM 8346 from Borealis third generation linear medium density polyethylene designed for rotomoulding, Finnish rotational moulder Motoral OY produces a combined battery, windscreen washing liquid reservoir and toolbox for Valtra tractors that reduces production and assembly time. The part design won top honours in the “Innovative State of the Art” category at the Association of Rotational Molders (ARM) International Fall Conference, 2003.
Previously supplied as three separate parts for Valtra’s tractors, it is now offered as one single, Borecene-based combination part. The component’s battery section is rotomoulded with double wall construction for extra ruggedness. No manual cutting or trimming is required during production, and the part’s space-saving design would be difficult or impossible to produce with any method other than rotomoulding.
"This unique combination shortened the assembly time in the tractor factory compared to the previous system due to the battery. The washer liquid and tools are ready in this box when fitted in the tractor body," stated Reijo Strøm, division manager for Motoral Oy.
Rotomoulders enjoy improved handling and environmental conditions: Borecene Compact takes up less volume, making it simpler to transport and store, it is dust free and requires no grinding.
"Borealis set new standards in rotomoulding when we introduced Borecene Compact, the first-ever black high-density polyethylene grade delivered as powder instead of pellets for grinding in 2002," says André van Uffelt, Vice President Borealis Moulding. "The novel Borecene extruder powder technology has provided value along the entire supply chain from production through moulding to higher quality and performance of the end product such as automotive parts, technical articles and tanks."
The improved processability of Borecene Compact compared to ground powder enables the rotomoulding of very complex, intricate shapes in a more cost-efficient way. Production cycles can be significantly shortened with up to 40% (that is, from 23 to 13 sec/100 gr), and end-users benefit from superior mechanical properties and excellent surface finish.
