Borealis and Borouge present latest developments for sustainable plastic pipe solutions at Plastics Pipes Conference XIV in Budapest

Borealis and Borouge, leading providers of innovative value creating plastic pipe solutions, will present a series of papers outlining their latest polyolefin technology developments and cutting-edge initiatives to delegates at the XIV Plastics Pipes Conference in Budapest, 22-24 September 2008.

Sponsored by the Plastics Pipes Conference Association (PPCA), of which Borealis is a member, the three-day biennial event covers market, technical and environmental topics. Europe’s preeminent futurologist, Ray Hammond, will deliver a keynote speech highlighting the important role of plastics in overcoming the global water challenge. This theme will be continued throughout the conference, with attention focused on the plastics industry’s potential to contribute to sustainable water and waste management solutions.

Non-corrosive pipe materials polyethylene and polypropylene can make a significant contribution towards preserving precious resources like drinking water, providing a leak-free solution to water, waste and gas distribution.

During the opening ceremony, Jane Toogood, Borealis Vice President Business Unit Pipe, will highlight Borealis’ commitment to advancing these benefits with a presentation of Borealis’ pioneering “Water for the World” programme – an initiative by Borealis and Borouge to address the global water challenge.

“As a leader in the plastics pipes industry we take our social responsibility seriously,” comments Jane Toogood. “Our Water for the World programme goes beyond our core business of material innovation, working with partners from across the pipe community to foster knowledge and provide sustainable water and waste water solutions for regions where access to water and effective sanitation is needed most.”

Representatives from Borealis and Borouge will also share their industry-leading expertise and know-how on plastic pipe systems for water, waste water and gas distribution. The authored and co-authored technical presentations feature the latest advances in materials, production and testing methods, and highlight application and regional case studies where polyolefin pipes are making a difference.

Christophe Salles Application Marketing Manager BU Pipe, Borealis concludes: “The Plastics Pipes Conference encourages discussion and technology exchange between end-users, designers, plastic pipe manufacturers and material suppliers from around the world, with the 2008 event expected to attract more than 600 participants. We believe in an ongoing dialogue with the market and very much welcome this opportunity to share information about the latest technologies and scientific advances. We look forward to discussing global and local issues, whilst demonstrating our approach to product innovation."
