Borouge invited to MEED Conference in Bahrain to Highlight Ruwais Plant Success

Borouge was invited this week to speak at the MEED’s Gulf Petrochemicals 2005 event, which took place on the 7th and 8th June 2005, in Bahrain. The two-day conference brought together speakers from the Middle East’s leading companies to talk about growth opportunities within the region and explore the future of the sector in the Gulf.

Along side key government representatives, Borouge discussed its Ruwais plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and the many milestones it has achieved since the petrochemical complex began operations in late 2001.

With Borouge’s total investment now in excess of USD 1 billion, Borouge turnover in 2004 was around USD700 million. Completed ahead of schedule and within budget, the world scale petrochemical complex was awarded with an ISO 9001 2000 within nine months of start up. The Cracker and PE plants reached full design capacity in the first five months, and Borouge has recently completed a debottlenecking expansion to reach a full production capacity of 600kts.

At the event, Borouge spokesman John Webster, Marketing Manager, highlighted the keys to Borouge’s success, namely its strong customer focus and innovative mindset, the Borealis proprietary Borstar technology which has enabled Borouge to offer a superior and differentiating product, and the clear marketing vision of Value Creation in demanding high performance applications that has established the Borouge venture as the new standard for operational excellence and commercial performance in the Gulf Region.

As Gulf Petrochemicals 2005 rounded up with the conference, Borouge’s presentation drew attendees attention to the future of the sector, the developing domestic market and how it is continuing to grow, how as leading companies in the sector it is crucial to attract, develop and retain professionals, and how strong customer focus and clear marketing strategies can ensure that brand and reputation evolve.

The event was well received by those within the industry and was an opportunity for senior petrochemical figures to debate all the major issues facing and shaping the future Gulf’s petrochemical landscape. Through in-depth analysis from respected speakers such as Borouge, Al Zamil Group of Companies, Shell Chemicals Arabia and Saudi Aramco to name but a few, the event helped build bridges within the industry and open communications.
