Clariant Catalysts expands in China with opening of new office in Yinchuan

  • Clariant becomes the first multinational catalyst company which establishes a permanent office in northwest China
  • New office in Yinchuan will enhance engineering and sales services for regional customers
  • Expansion will enable direct cooperation with coal-to-chemicals producers in the region

Munich, July 18, 2017 – Clariant, a world leading company in specialty chemicals, today announced the opening of a new office for its Catalysts business in Yinchuan city, capital of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region in China. With the new branch, Clariant becomes the first multinational catalyst provider based in northwest China, a region that is home to a majority of the nation’s coal-to-chemicals producers as well as numerous syngas and polyolefin companies.

Located in downtown Yinchuan, the new office will allow closer cooperation with regional customers, enabling Clariant to offer faster, tailor-made engineering services and sales assistance. The local team will be supported by Clariant specialists both within China and from around the world. The company’s expansion is part of its “China Insider” strategy, which stresses the importance of local expertise for technologies specific to China, combined with full access to global innovations. Through this model, Clariant continues to intensify partnerships throughout China, and serve the market with optimal catalyst solutions.

The Yinchuan office is Clariant’s fifth branch in China. Clariant has two state-of-the-art catalyst production facilities in China, one in Jinshan district of Shanghai, and the other in Panjin city of Liaoning province. The facilities develop and produce a variety of catalysts specifically for China’s market requirements and conditions. At the end of 2015, an R&D team has been established to better support the local technical needs. Clariant is also present in Beijing, offering engineering services and sales assistance to customers in the area.

Thomas Wenger, Head of Business Unit Catalysts, Clariant China, described the company’s expansion plans, stating, “Clariant’s continued developments and investments in China reflect our solid commitment to our current and prospective customers. Proximity brings mutual opportunities, and enables optimized catalyst solutions based on the best of local and global resources. We are proud to be the first multinational catalyst company which establishes a permanent office in northwest China, and more firsts will follow.”
