Clariant completes REACH registrations
- Registration completed ahead of deadline
- In total, Clariant has submitted ca. 1,000 registrations for REACH
- Milestone passed by Product Stewardship and Business Units
Muttenz, June 7, 2018 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, today announced that it has completed Phase 3 of the EU regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals). The regulation was introduced by the European Union to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment, to improve the communication of information on handling chemical products, and to preserve and enhance the competitiveness of the chemical industry in the European Union.
During this Phase 3 of REACH, Clariant registered data with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on all chemical substances of which the company either manufactures or imports in excess of 1 tonne per year. This amounted to almost 1,000 dossiers in total.
After May 2018, the framework of REACH implementation efforts is shifting away from registration to dossier updates, evaluation, authorization or restriction and includes work on supply chain communications, i.e. extended Safety Data Sheets (eSDS).
“Due to the breadth of our broad product portfolio, Clariant is one of the lead registrants. Thanks to the close cooperation between our Product Stewardship areas, other service functions and all our Business Units, we were able to complete registration Phase 3 of REACH on schedule. In addition, Clariant launched an internal project REACH 2018+ in order to comply with future REACH obligations across all relevant functions,” said Joachim F. Krüger, Senior Vice President, Corporate Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs.
