K 2010
October 27 – November 3, 2010 Düsseldorf
Muttenz, October 27, 2010 - A new dedicated brand of masterbatches and compounds for the medical and pharmaceutical sector, capacity expansion of safer, more environmentally-compatible flame retardants, and the launch of efficiency-boosting processing agents, are among the highlights of Clariant’s “Power Your Performance” commitment to the plastics sector at K 2010.
The specialty chemicals’ expert showcases the latest advances in its unique range of pigments, additives, masterbatches and compounds designed to enable customers to respond to the sector’s most significant challenges. Clariant’s materials are at the forefront of supporting customers in improving safety, addressing environmental concerns and achieving greater efficiency. Key highlights featuring at K 2010 include:
Safety
Worldwide Clariant applies very high safety standards to its products and processes. This makes it is ideally positioned and equipped to help its customers navigate plastics and chemical regulations and practices, now and in the future. This makes Clariant the partner of choice for products for sensitive applications such as medical devices, food packaging and toys.
• Clariant launches MEVOPUR® – its dedicated range of color and performance masterbatches and compounds for the medical and pharmaceutical sector. The new brand will provide a controlled, consistent and compliant portfolio, able to address the safety challenges of customers in this highly-sensitive and demanding sector.
• Clariant is leading in REACH legislation: Clariant is one of the first Companies to have produced and gathered the necessary data and studies to complete the registration work for the substances where it is in the lead registrant position in advance of the November 30, 2010 deadline. The company has carried out in-depth studies on toxicology, eco-toxicology and physical chemical data, and will support customers in the use of REACH-ready pigments in their applications
• Customers serving the consumer goods, toys and food packaging markets are well prepared for the 2012 REACH lead chromate restriction thanks to Clariant’s commitment to anticipating regulatory evolution. Clariant was among the first pigments’ producers to foresee future legislation regarding lead chromate, adding lead chromate-free pigments to its color ranges long before the 2012 REACH restriction came on the horizon.
Ecology
Clariant offers ecology-driven solutions that may help to protect the environment. In doing so it helps customers to improve the sustainability and environmental impact of their operations and products, while striving to create its own products with the same high regard for the environment.
• Clariant announces a major capacity expansion for its non-halogenated flame retardants for plastics, Exolit® OP. Clariant will double capacity by 2012 by debottlenecking existing facilities and then adding a second industrial unit. Further opportunities to extend capacity from 2014 onwards are being explored.
Efficiency
Clariant’s processes and material solutions play a significant role in helping customers to reduce their development time, and improve their output potential and cost efficiency.
• Clariant unveils its new, all-round innovative Licocene waxes for plastics that act as a dispersing and carrier agent in one for pre-mix formulations. The high-performance metallocene-catalyzed Licocene grades allow processors to achieve better control, more highly-filled and effective formulations, and faster dispersion of colorants, additives and fillers for almost universal applications. The sole carrier simplifies inventory management.
• The launch of new Hostavin® N845PP brings a step change in performance and processing efficiency to plastics processors serving the automotive industry. The unique UV stabilizer for automotive interior applications provides best-yet anti-fogging and migration performance, in combination with efficient dispersion and easy, safe handling.
• The opening of Clariant’s new pigment plant in Hangzhou, China on October 22, 2010 is another step in making products and services available locally within Greater China in order to shorten delivery lead time and enhance supply chain efficiency.
“Our underlying message at K 2010 is that Clariant is here to power the performance of its customers with a powerful performance of its own,” comments Dr. Christian Kohlpainter. “Our intensive restructuring in the years 2009 and 2010 are coming to an end. Now we are ready to focus our activities on the needs and challenges of our customers. We have bounced back and are stronger than ever before. The innovation and investment examples on show at K 2010 reflect our positive approach and determination to grow.”
