Clariant presents eco-efficient, high-performance coating innovations in China & Brasil

  • Clariant at Abrafati 2011 and Chinacoat 2011
  • Cutting-edge pigments, additives and emulsions in the spotlight
  • New encapsulation technology for biocides among the highlights

Muttenz, November 25, 2011 - With a focus on eco-efficiency and reliability, Clariant shared its latest sophisticated coatings innovations with key sector players at the leading Latin American and China coatings events held this November, Abrafati in São Paulo, Brazil and Chinacoat in Shanghai, China.

The specialty chemicals expert showcased high-performance developments designed to inspire, and support the sustainable production of more environmentally-considerate paints and coatings. Clariant’s diversified portfolio addresses manufacturers’ efficiency requirements and their need for reliable performance from their suppliers and ingredients, while taking into account the many different guidelines regarding quality and product safety presented by the wide-ranging end-use applications of the coatings industry.

Highlights from Clariant’s ranges of pigments, additives, emulsions, emulsifiers, and wetting and dispersing agents, foam control solutions and biocides, featured at the events included:

• Clariant‘s Colanyl® 500 line, free of both binders and APEO and with a very low VOC content, for the new generation of acrylic emulsion water-based paints, which are low-VOC or VOC-free.

• New Ceridust® and Licocene® waxes, offering major developments in pigment dispersion and price performance for powder coatings. Clariant’s recently-launched line of micronized waxes, Ceridust, is based on its metallocene technology using raw materials from renewable resources. New Licocene PE MA 4351, an agent for powder paint, acts on the paint’s fluidity, improving coverage on edges and preventing runs during application.

• Clariant’s pioneering Exolit® product series of non-halogenated, non-migrating flame retardants for intumescent coatings and various polymer applications. For example, the highly effective "one and only" original ammonium polyphosphate product, Exolit AP, allows customers to comply with the most stringent fire protection classifications with their intumescent formulations.

• A new encapsulation technology for biocides in nanomaterials for exterior paints. NIPASAFE offers fungicide and algaecide properties and lixiviation resistance.

• Clariant’s new Mowilith® emulsions portfolio comprising state-of-the-art and environment-focused products to meet the needs of segments such as decorative interior or exterior paints, varnishes, wood enamels and lacquers, and metal coatings. Clariant launched its new Terpolymersgeneration with excellent cost-benefit in comparison to pure acrylics and styrene-acrylics.

Hostaperm® Pink E2Y: a quinacridone magenta pigment made by Clariant in China. It has high color strength and excellent light and weather fastness at a wide range of concentrations. Following strict quality control procedures and specifications, this product fulfills the requirements of many coatings applications, such as Decorative, General Industrial, Automotive, Powder Coatings, and Coil Coating. It is equally well suited for water-based and solvent-based paint systems and is subject to Clariant's stringent product safety guidelines, which ensures that heavy metal regulations are met for both RoHS and toys paints.

• Clariant’s ED Pigments line, with the main application of facilitating pigment dispersion in paint manufacturing, resulting in savings in both production energy and time.
