Clariant Oil Services Teams with University of Aberdeen for Safety Presentations

Nine Safety and Reliability Engineering students participated
Clariant Oil Services gave presentations on safety topics relevant to the oil and gas industry
Students were able to tour a facility to identify areas for improvement

Houston (USA), March 27, 2012 - Clariant Oil Services representatives Dr. Jonathan Wylde, Moira Lamb and Martin Byers hosted a lunch and learn for nine students from the University of Aberdeen on March 7. The informal meeting covered a number of safety topics related to the oil and gas industry.

The students are part of the University’s MSc in Safety and Reliability Engineering. The course covers areas such as offshore oil and gas production systems, fundamental safety and risk management concepts, statistics and probability for safety and reliability engineering and applied risk analysis and management.

The event was organized by Dr. Wylde, UK Business Manager, who is a mentor of one of the students in the course through the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ eMentoring program. The students listened to informal presentations from Wylde on the oil industry and then on ESHA and product stewardship from Lamb, QESHA Officer. The students were then given a yard tour by Gary Robertson, Shift Team Leader, and a tour of the UK laboratories by Martin Byers, the UK Technical Group Manager. The students were invited to make safety observations and identify opportunities for improvement as they walked around.
