Clariant Oil Services Helps Teach Financial Skills to Local High School Students
- Clariant employee volunteers to teach students at The Woodlands High School how to manage money
- Conroe ISD relies on community volunteers to impart valuable lessons from corporate world to students
Houston, April 9, 2012 – A Clariant Oil Services employee will volunteer in the Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas’ JA Finance Park® Virtual simulation at The Woodlands High School on March 27 and 30. The simulation teaches senior high students how to budget and manage personal finances through two community taught lessons and four 45-minute simulations on a computer.
Conroe ISD, which encompasses about 3,000 students and includes The Woodlands High School, relies on about 150 volunteers to teach the JA Finance Park® Virtual lessons. Nick Phillips, Vice President of Marketing, Technology and Key Accounts for Clariant Oil Services, will teach two lessons to the students.
“Volunteers embody the heart of Junior Achievement,” said Judy Knocke, senior operations manager for Conroe ISD. “Taking a message of opportunity and boundless potential to a classroom in your community, no matter what your profession, is JA in action. The volunteer is able to bring their real-world experiences in the corporate world into the classroom—that cannot be duplicated by a classroom teacher. The difference made by a volunteer can be life-changing.”
JA Finance Park® Virtual is presented to each classroom where economics is taught, which allows every senior in Conroe ISD to participate in the program. Phillips will draw from his career experiences at Clariant Oil Services, based in Houston, to teach students valuable budgeting lessons and the importance of career goals.
