Protective Desiccants Exhibited by Clariant at FachPack

  • Company showcases versatile, high-performance desiccants for cargo and device protection
  • Customers now benefit from the offering of new synergies, resources and solutions for performance packaging

Munich/Charlotte, 25 September 2012 – The Swiss specialty chemicals group Clariant, represented by its business line Performance Packaging, part of the company’s Functional Materials business unit, is exhibiting Container Dri® II desiccants, Desi-Sheet™ flat desiccants and its portfolio of other protective packaging technologies for cargo and device applications at FachPack 2012 in Hall 7A, Stand 526. Performance Packaging is exhibiting at this show for the first time as part of Clariant. FachPack, the leading European exhibition in the field of packaging, packaging technology and logistics, is being held in Nuremberg, Germany, from Sept. 25-27.

“Performance Packaging, which was formerly part of Süd-Chemie, is now integrated into the Clariant global organization. This successful integration offers new opportunities for our European customers to leverage the broad array of Clariant resources and the local presence of the Functional Materials business unit, which is headquartered in Munich,” said Andy Walti, global head of business line Performance Packaging. “These additional assets support and enhance our broad portfolio of protective solutions for cargo transport and device shipment.”

At FachPack, Clariant is highlighting the advantages of Container Dri II bags, strips, poles and packs for reducing damaging humidity in shipping containers. Container Dri II desiccants absorb up to three times their weight in moisture from the atmosphere. The solution offers double protection: a unique, patented formulation traps this moisture in a no-spill gel and also reduces the dew point to avoid “container rain.” The company’s other solutions for cargo protection include bentonite desiccant bags, tablets and preforms, as well as Humitector® humidity indicator cards and plugs designed to meet rigorous military and industry standards.

For devices, Clariant Desi-Sheet flat desiccants adsorb moisture while eliminating bulges caused by traditional desiccant bags. These flat sheets enable customers to optimize available space inside secondary packaging, thus reducing waste and shipping costs. The company also offers SÜKORRON® static shielding bags that protect sensitive parts from static discharge and electric fields during transport and storage.

Stefan Dick Ph.D., head of sales for cargo and device protection, said, “Moisture is the major pathway to product degradation, product malfunction and shortened shelf life. Clariant offers a number of desiccant technologies to protect products from moisture damage throughout the supply chain. These solutions do more than protect cargo, however – they also safeguard customers’ brand equity by helping to ensure products arrive at their final destination or point-of-use in excellent condition.”

Clariant also offers a full line of active packaging solutions to protect healthcare products such as pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and diagnostics from humidity and oxygen.
