Clariant to showcase moisture solutions for furniture at IFEX 2015

  • Cargo desiccants Container Dri® II specially designed to absorb moisture from air during shipping
  • Local production with different configurations to meet the needs of Indonesia's furniture market

Singapore, February 26, 2015 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, will showcase its leading desiccant products and its locally produced line of container desiccants, Container Dri® II dedicated to the furniture market in Indonesia during the International Furniture Expo 2015 (IFEX 2015) to be held on March 12-15, 2015 at the Jakarta International Expo, Indonesia.

With Indonesia being ranked at 13th among furniture exporters in the world and fourth in Asia, products manufactured in Indonesia are becoming more and more popular overseas. Within the furniture market, Indonesia is blessed with a host of natural resources that boast strong supplies of raw materials, such as wood, bamboo, rattan and teak. With extensive swathes of legal forest plantations, the country has the capacity to meet the raw material needs of the furniture sector.

Due to their size and weight, furniture products manufactured in Indonesia destined for overseas market are likely going to go through a long journery that could take weeks to complete. During shipment, the uncontrolled humidity and condensation can easily compromise the furniture's physical condition and quality. Mold, corrosion, spoilage and warping are just some of the harmful effects caused by moisture during transportation, whether it is via shipping container, rail, barge or truck.

Clariant’s Container Dri II portfolio offers a comprehensive line of container desiccants that provide versatile protection against damaging humidity and moisture during intermodal transport. Available in various packaging, these industry-leading products aggressively absorb up to three times their weight in moisture, and trap it as a thick gel that will not spill or drip, reducing relative humidity to less than 40 percent.

The product reduces dew point temperatures that cause harmful “container rain”, keeping cargoes safe and dry for up to 90 days. It is particularly valuable when there is a large volume of space requiring moisture removal; high levels of humidity are present due to climate, cargo or storage conditions; or the container is not fully closed and admits exterior air and humidity.

“We have begun manufacturing our Container Dri II line-up of products at our Indonesia plant starting last year. It provides our local customers in Indonesia with rapid availability of this great product in various sizes and styles that fully meet their needs with the best performance on the market. As the furniture export market of Indonesia continues to expand, I believe there will be strong demand for our line of desiccant products," said Menghwee Toh, Head of Sales for Clariant CPD Asia, BL Absorbents, BU Functional Minerals.

IFEX 2015 is considered the largest furniture exhibition in Indonesia with over 7,000 international buyers from 110 countries expected to take part. Clariant's sales team and technical experts from the Business Unit FM Cargo & Device Protection, SEA&P will be ready at their booth located at #B-008C of Hall B during the four-day show of IFEX to give visitors full details about their products.
