DSM material innovation improves bobsleigh stability

Bobsleigher Ilse Broeders: “‘Smart blocks’ a good step on the road to success in Turin”
The bobsleighs to be used by the Dutch Olympic Team at the Olympic Games in Turin contain special DSM vibration dampers that make the bobsleigh more stable. This reduces the risk of steering errors and means that better times can be achieved. The vibration dampers reduce the number of vibrations in the bobsleigh runners to 40% compared with the dampers traditionally used for bobsleighs.

BOPLA’S BOCARD ENCLOSURE COVER OFFERS CLARITY AND STRENGTH THANKS TO DSM XANTAR® PC

Clear cover available on BOPLA’s Bocard enclosures is made of Xantar® polycarbonate resin from DSM Engineering Plastics. The Bocard cover benefits from the processing economies, clarity, impact resistance and dimensional stability of Xantar.BOPLA Gehäuse Systeme GmbH (Bünde, Germany) has chosen Xantar® polycarbonate from DSM Engineering Plastics for the available clear covers of its family of Bocard plastic electronics enclosures. The clear panels of the covers are made of Xantar 22 R 01001 resin. The covers meet IEC 529 IP65 specifications, sealing out dust and minimizing ingress of low-pressure water, thanks in part to the resin’s excellent dimensional stability. In addition, the long-term clarity of Xantar allows visual monitoring of equipment housed in the Bocard enclosure, while the resin’s impact resistance helps prevent breakage and incursion by objects. Xantar meets UL-94 V2 @ 1,5 mm ratings, and the 22 R 01001 grade provides good flow and excellent mould release for ease of production.

NEW WANADOO ADSL MODEM BRINGS HIGH STYLE TO CONNECTIVITY

Stylish new Wanadoo Livebox modem by Sagem Communications uses Xantar® polycarbonate from DSM Engineering Plastics to provide excellent surface aesthetics, a diffused pulsing Wanadoo logo glow during use, impact resistance and strength -- and at the same time meet stringent UL V0 flame ratings.Because French telephony and Internet giant Wanadoo wanted to communicate the fun of connectivity to its Livebox combined home consumer Internet, telephone and TV services, its new asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) Livebox modem combines the height of style with high technology. Much of the visual effect of the new modem depends on Xantar® polycarbonate (PC) from DSM Engineering Plastics. The translucent Xantar FC 19 UR grade of PC resin imparts a brilliant finish to the impact- resistant Livebox enclosure, allowing a large Wanadoo logo in its side emit a pulsing glow during operation while still meeting UL V0 at 3mm flame ratings for safety.

TYCO AMP CHANGES FROM LCP TO STANYL® HIGH FLOW PA46 FOR PC CARD HEADER, LOWERS COSTS & REDUCES WARPAGE

Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46), grade 46HF 5040, has been selected for a thermoplastic PCMCIA (PC card) header, gaining overall cost savings, better mechanical properties and freedom from warpage.Electronics manufacturer Tyco Amp Den Bosch has changed the material it uses for moulding PCMCIA (PC card) header from liquid crystal polymer (LCP) to Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46), gaining overall cost savings, better mechanical properties, and very low warpage. Stanyl grade 46HF 5040, a high-flow formulation, easily meets the flow properties of LCP, allowing ready moulding of the tiny features in the header while enhancing much needed mechanical properties.

DSM Engineering Plastics launches Stanyl® 46SF5030 for high end connector applications

DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced a new grade to the Stanyl Polyamide 46 global portfolio. Designated Stanyl 46SF5030, the new grade marks the beginning of a new series - Stanyl Super Flow - developed especially for the connector industry as DSM’s response to the requirements of new generation connectors and it further expands on DSM’s current comprehensive product offerings for the connector market.

DIAPER CHAMP KEEPS THE EARTH—AND LIVING SPACES—MORE HABITABLE WITH DIAPER CHAMP'S SEAL OF ARNITEL® ELASTOMER FROM DSM ENGINEERING PLASTICS

Small, but effective seal made from DSM Engineering Plastics Arnitel® thermoplastic elastomer helps keep odours under control in the Diaper Champ diaper pail from Garland BV.A recently re-designed Diaper Champ, an innovative, odourless diaper pail from Garland BV (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), uses Arnitel® copolyester thermoplastic elastomer seals from DSM Engineering Plastics. In conjunction with a reverse piston action during disposal, the seals prevent the spread of odours from the Diaper Champ to living areas around the container. Arnitel provides durable flexibility combined with low friction and high abrasion resistance to help ensure positive sealing throughout the life of Diaper Champ. Available globally, Diaper Champ is an important component of the growing trend in recycling the valuable materials in infant and adult hygiene diapers.
