PASSIONATELY PROVIDING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS AT K 2007

At K 2007, DSM Engineering Plastics demonstrated its passion for innovation by introducing a wide range of new materials for existing and new markets.

DSM ENGINEERING PLASTICS AT K 2007

At stand B11 in Hall 6, DSM will demonstrate “Solution 3P" - a Passion for Innovative growth. The DSM Engineering Plastics Team will be on hand to show its global capability, its drive for innovative solutions and its record as a trustworthy partner, with a complete product portfolio.

DSM INTRODUCES ARNITEL VAPOR TRANSMISSION FILMS

DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced Arnitel VT for the manufacture of breathable films. Arnitel Vapor Transmission films are ideally suited for roofing applications, textile applications and plasters and for medical gowns and drapes.

AKULON XP FOR IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY IN PACKAGING FILMS

DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced Akulon XP, a high productivity grade of PA6 for film applications. Akulon XP offers a broader processing window leading to more flexibility and more uniform thickness distribution in cast film, more melt strength and better parison stability leading to optimized LDPE/LLDPE ratio in multi-layer films without sacrificing the mechanical properties, more shear thinning than with standard PA6 enabling thus higher coating velocities possible and still absolutely gel free.

SIGNIFICANT SYSTEM COST REDUCTIONS IN RUBBER REPLACEMENT

In a recent clean air duct application where Arnitel® PB 582-H from DSM Engineering Plastics replaced rubber, the move yielded for a a weight reduction of 50% and cycle time reduction of 50% compared to rubber, which resulted in 0.6 Euro/part processing saving and a 0.8 Euro/part fuel saving (a total annual saving of 70.000 Euro for 50.000 parts).

NEW HALOGEN FREE FLAME RETARDANT MATERIALS

In order to minimize environmental impact, whilst at the same time complying with the latest environmental regulations, DSM Engineering Plastics has recently introduced several new, halogen free flame retardant (FR) materials for use in a range of applications.

NEW HIGH FLOW AND HIGH PRODUCTIVITY MATERIALS FROM DSM

DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced a range of High Flow & High Productivity materials, which enable significant system cost reductions, when compared to standard resins. Added value for the customer is generated by these materials via shorter production cycles leading to lower processing costs per part, greater design freedom leading to lower material and/or processing costs per part and more room for innovation, such as metal replacement. To demonstrate the potential for cost reduction and annual savings, DSM Engineering Plastics is able to provide customers with Product Cost Analysis spreadsheet tools.

SYSTEM COST REDUCTION IN GEARS

DSM Engineering Plastics’ Stanyl® high performance polyamide is the material of choice for the production of a wide range of gears: interior gears, motor management gears, steel replacement gears, electric power steering gears, etc.

MEETING THE CHALLENGES OF HIGH HEAT RESINS

At K 2007, DSM Engineering Plastics will demonstrate how its portfolio of materials can lead to significant system cost reductions in comparison to high heat resins such as PPA, PPS, PEI and PEEK. Key examples include Arnite XL for automotive lighting applications and Akulon Ultraflow for automotive interior. Stanyl PA46 also often allows for a reduction in system costs and/or to optimize designs thanks to its unmatched stiffness at high temperatures and the extreme good fatigue resistance.

DSM MATERIALS BRING INNOVATION IN SAFETY PARTS

At K 2007, DSM Engineering Plastics will demonstrate how - based on its extensive material data sets and its extensive CAE expertise - the company can make a further step in value creation by either co-developing new applications in plastic or by optimizing the design of applications for even more safety. This high level experience facilitates also the introduction of new materials which combine high safety with high productivity.

WEIGHT REDUCTION IN AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS

Weight reduction is vital in automotive in order to help reduce fuel consumption and emission levels to meet today's and future standards. One way to reduce weight in a car is to design applications as much as possible in plastics instead of in metal. As metal prices have increased more than the cost of plastics raw materials, this can also lead to further system cost reductions. Other benefits are greater freedom of design, parts intergration and greater corrosion resistance.

AKULON ULTRAFLOW IS IMPRESSIVE

Swedish firm Sveico has produced a new design garlic press, which will be sold under the company's GastroMax label. The company selected Akulon Ultraflow from DSM Engineering Plastics, because the material offered greater design freedom and is easy for filling complex molds. In addition, Akulon Ultraflow was able to deliver low cycle times with a 40% saving in production time compared to other polyamides, lower investment in machine and moulds, longer lifetime for machine and mould thanks to lower mould pressure, lower energy consumption and shorter cooling time.
