DSM showcased Unmatched Brand and Product Portfolio at Chinaplas 2005

Shanghai - DSM Engineering Plastics recently participated in Chinaplas 2005, the largest plastic and rubber industry exposition in Asia, held in Guangzhau. From June 21-24 at Chinaplas, DSM showcased a series of their products, representing 4 major brands: Stanyl®, Arnite®, Arnitel® TPE and Akulon®. DSM also hosted several seminars during the exhibition to present its state-of-art product portfolio and innovative breakthroughs.

“Participating in Chinaplas is a part of our Marketing Strategy to make our presence felt in the Chinese Market,” said Roelof Westerbeek, President of DSM Engineering Plastics Asia Pacific, “It is a good vehicle not only to showcase our products, but more importantly, to demonstrate our overall commitment to deliver value to our customers through innovations in applications, cost benefits and service orientation.”

This was DSM’s third consecutive year of participation in Chinaplas. Demonstrating its long term commitment to the Chinese market this was a good platform for DSM to interact with customers from the key South China market. DSM’s Asia Pacific technical team made up of design and application experts for different segments together with product team specialists attended the exhibition to share new developments with visitors.

DSM’s approach for engineering plastics is to provide solutions not only in terms of material properties that are tailored to suit applications, but also to offer complete solutions in terms of component design and manufacturing, partnering with their customers to bring world class products to the market,. This was perfectly demonstrated through the integrated presentation of DSM’s product portfolio, new applications, experts’ panel and various seminars given during the four day event.

Stanyl, the high performance polyamide, was one of the highlights of the DSM’s display. Stanyl is the first choice when it comes to critical applications that need to withstand severe environmental conditions of heat, wear, fatigue etc. Stanyl is the first thermoplastic to be used by Rolls-Royce in aero engines and parts made from Stanyl help to make the Trent 900 engine used in the A 380, the world’s largest plane, one of the quietest ever built. Stanyl versatility is demonstrated by its wide range of application areas, including components used in turbocharger systems, automotive engine timing systems, consumer electronics, electric motors, computers and a host of other everyday articles. The product is marketed throughout the world and is manufactured in the USA, Europe, China, and Japan.

Arnitel is a thermoplastic elastomer with exceptional chemical, heat and fatigue resistance that can replace not only traditional rubbers but also metals, leather and other thermoplastics, bringing economic, safety and performance benefits to the applications. Vehicle drive train protection, air-fuel systems, railroad buffer pads are some typical applications where Arnitel has brought performance and durability gains.

Standard polyamides 6 and 66 are the most common engineering plastic materials available and cover an extensive range of applications. DSM’s Akulon product range covers this type of material, with the emphasis on high productivity grades as well as products that meet stringent global safety and environmental standards. Applications for Akulon are to be found in automotive under-the-hood components, particularly engine and fuel systems components; in car interiors especially in critical airbag containers; consumer goods such as power tools, sports and leisure equipment and appliances; and electrical components, notably safety equipment in power distribution, connection and control. Akulon has a vital role as an oxygen barrier material for food packaging, helping to preserve and extend the shelf life of foods in the consumer distribution chain. With its Akulon XP, DSM is uniquely offering a high–productivity, high-performance PA6 for film extrusion processes. Arnite PBT and PET round out the portfolio, complementing the other brands across the automotive, electrical/electronic, appliance and industrial equipment industries with distinct and value adding performance profiles.

Overall, Chinaplas 2005 was another occasion for DSM, to reassure their engineering plastics customers of their best-in-class materials and services. DSM has a state-of-the-art compounding facility for thermoplastics and a Regional Applications Development Center (RADC) in Jiangsu to support their ambitious growth plans in China.

“With our commitment to China and rich resources around the globe, DSM will continue to offer advanced technology and quality engineering plastics products to the Chinese market,” commented Stefan Sommer, the President of DSM China. “DSM will expand its thermoplastics compounding capacity this year. By setting up new compounding lines, DSM will double it total production capacity of Stanyl PA46, Akulon PA6 and Arnite polyesters in 2006”.
