DSM Engineering Plastics launches Stanyl® 46SF5030 for high end connector applications

DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced a new grade to the Stanyl Polyamide 46 global portfolio. Designated Stanyl 46SF5030, the new grade marks the beginning of a new series - Stanyl Super Flow - developed especially for the connector industry as DSM’s response to the requirements of new generation connectors and it further expands on DSM’s current comprehensive product offerings for the connector market.

The miniaturization of electronic products is increasingly challenging connector manufacturers to design smaller connectors than ever before. Stanyl 46SF5030 is positioned to cater to the smallest design connectors; with higher pin counts and wall thicknesses as thin as 0.1mm and pitch values well below 0.3mm. Such applications demand that the plastic insulator material should have superior flow, for ease of processing with exceptional strength and ductility.

Stanyl 46SF5030, a 30% glass-fiber reinforced Super Flow Stanyl grade, is characterized by superb processability, exceptional strength and ductility and outstanding weld line strength. With its high thermal resistance, the grade is eminently suitable for lead-free soldering processes –without blistering at low wall thicknesses and with the retention of high mechanical properties. The material is Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) rated and conforms to the best flame retardant property in its class. Stanyl 46SF5030 is RoHS compliant and can survive the high (peak) temperatures of lead free soldering, retaining its excellant mechanical properties.

New Stanyl 46SF5030 is an excellent material for demanding, thin-wall connector applications, whether for innovative flat-panel TV’s or LCD screens, notebooks, mobile phones, DVD players, MP3 players, PDA devices or many others. Most miniature SMT connector types are included: notably FPC, FFC, SIM card, wire-to-board and board-to-board connectors as well as all other types.
