STANYL PA46 MAKES NEW BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR POSSIBLE FOR DUNKERMOTOREN GMBH
Dunkermotoren GmbH a world class leader in high quality motion control solutions, has successfully used an adapted grade of Stanyl® PA46 for its BG-series of brushless E-motors.
As a global player in the field of high quality motion control solutions and thanks to its initial success and subsequent market demand, Dunkermotoren GmbH wanted to extend its well-established portfolio of BG-series of high end brushless motors by adding two more compact, high efficiency and high output motors.
Working with molder PVS-Kunststofftechnik GmbH + Co and DSM Engineering Plastics, Stanyl TE250F6 was approved for this application. This included UL1446 testing for the higher temperature class. The excellent high temperature ageing properties of Stanyl PA46 TE250F6 for thin-walled overmolded insulating systems solved breaking issues during winding experienced with competitive materials, especially at thicker diameter copper wire.
According to Pascal Feijts, Application Development Manager Gears, Pumps & E-motors at DSM Engineering Plastics, Stanyl PA46 TE250F6 offers the possibility to low wall thicknesses (down to 0.35mm) in high heat (180ºC) over molded insulating systems according UL1446 thus enabling high speed winding. “Thanks to its excellent flow, high heat ageing and mechanical properties, Stanyl was able to deliver excellent high heat mechanical properties, good heat ageing performance and excellent flow & strenght for the overmolded stator used in these motors.” Mr. Feijts added: “In order to meet the needs of this relatively new application area, we upgraded our standard Stanyl grade to a lower thickness in the UL1446 high temperature insulation class.”
Stanyl TE250F6 has already been applied successfully in overmolded stators for several years. The material offers a unique solution for reducing wall thickness – one of the key ways to reduce system costs – without loss of quality, in fact offering increased quality. Previously, Stanyl TE250F6 could only be used for these types of applications in combination with UL1446 for temperature class 180(H) with wall thicknessof 0,69mm but not for wall thickness 0,35mm. Now, with the UL1446 180(H) designation the grade can also be used for insulating systems down to wall thicknesses of 0,35mm.
Pascal Feijts: “This Technology is relatively new and a logical step after using varnish (dip & bake) based insulation materials in combination with high performance plastics end-laminates. Beside Technology advantages it will also bring ecological and logistics advantages. The recognition according to UL1446 thermal class 180(H) of Stanyl PA46 TE250F6 in the low wall thickness of 0,35mm gives new opportunities for electric motors, transformers or coils.”
Andreas Winterhalder, Head of Motor Development at Dunkermotoren GmbH says: “We are constantly looking to meet the increasing demands for cost effective and reliable drive solutions in industrial automation, medical devices & laboratory equipment, door automation, sun protection as well as land, marine and aerospace vehicles. However, insufficient and inconsistent performance of currently used material did not meet higher requirements for our new and upgraded brushless motor range. Stanyl TE250F6 proved the best material for the application thanks to its excellent flow and mechanical properties at high temperatures.”
