Distrupol receives safety accolade from RoSPA
Distrupol, a leading polymer distributor, technical service and solutions provider, is the proud recipient of two RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Occupational Health & Safety Awards for 2006. At a ceremony held in Birmingham on 10th May 2006, the company was presented with a Silver Award, for its overall health and safety management systems, and a Bronze Award, for its comprehensive car driver safety programme. The RoSPA Silver and Bronze Awards recognise and celebrate the achievement of a very high standard of health and safety at work over three and two years respectively.
Distrupol was awarded the prestigious RoSPA Silver Award for its overall approach to occupational health and safety and its integration into daily business practice. Under the company’s guiding principle of being “Serious about Safety”, Distrupol places health and safety at the top of the agenda for all of its executive meetings, and has a comprehensive reporting system to record and assess accidents and incidents across its sites. Key learnings are taken from these events and are communicated effectively throughout the company, with an emphasis on changing safety behaviour. Regular, hands-on safety checks and a thorough safety introduction for new employees are further key aspects of the company’s programme.
Performance against occupational health and safety objectives is measured on a monthly basis, with targets of zero site accidents and employee attendance in excess of 98 percent. “The Distrupol approach to health and safety comes from the top, starting with our Group Guiding Principles, and reflects how serious the organisation is about safety. This approach is set in the culture of the business and results in safety being at the forefront of everything we do,” commented Mike Jones, SHE & Quality Manager, Distrupol Ltd., who took receipt of the awards on behalf of Distrupol.
Commenting on the RoSPA decision to present Distrupol with the two awards, David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager said: “Distrupol have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead by providing a positive example.”
