Distrupol adds Aquamid technical polymers to its portfolio

Distrupol has extended its range of technical polymers by adding Aquamid AR100 and the Aquamid HC range from Aquafil Technopolymers to its portfolio. Both polymers are now available across the regions served by the Distrupol distribution network.

Aquamid AR100 is a highly-transparent amorphous polyamide with very low oxygen and carbon-dioxide permeability, which combines high surface hardness with good abrasion and scratch resistance and high chemical resistance. Easy to injection-mould, the polymer also lends itself to other forms of processing including blow moulding and extrusion. Common applications for Aquamid AR100 include the cost-effective production of furniture parts such as chairs and decorative elements requiring increased mechanical resistance, electrical components, cables, film and lenses.

The Aquamid HC product family, also from Aquafil, is an innovative range of materials with glass loadings from 12% to 60%. These materials not only have excellent mechanical properties, but also exhibit very good surface finish across the full range. This makes the material an ideal substitute for aluminium, with no requirement for painting. Aquafil has had success recently in replacing aluminium as a tractor hinge with Aquamid 6G60HC. There are opportunities for these products in the electronic, automotive and furniture markets, where high strength and stiffness are required, with good surface finish and ease of processing.

Aquafil Technopolymers, from Arco di Trento, Italy, is part of the Bonazzi Group with responsibility for the group’s polymer material division. The company has developed a vast range of compounds of PA 6 and PA 66 for moulding and extrusion, including glass fibre and mineral reinforced grades, marketed under Aquamid and Econyl tradenames.
