DSM Dyneema to exhibit at AQUA SUR 2008 - Hall B, stand B90
26-29 March, 2008 - Puerto Montt, Chile
Urmond (NL), March 14 - During the International Aquaculture Exhibition AQUA SUR 2008, DSM will showcase its innovative product Dyneema®, the world's strongest fiber™, demonstrating the many benefits this ultra strong polyethylene fiber brings to the aquaculture industry.
Fish farming companies can benefit from netting made with Dyneema® as the fiber properties result for instance in significantly lighter nets, lower maintenance cost, reduced fish escapes and improved fish health; overall bringing economic advantages for the fish farmer. DSM Dyneema and their netting customers, such as global leader Badinotti, see great potential not only for containment nets but also for predator nets made with Dyneema®. The collaboration with Badinotti has already resulted in successes in salmon farming, such as with Cooke Aquaculture who have been using netting made with Dyneema® for over three years with great success. In Chile, Mainstream and Multiexport Foods will start trialing netting made with Dyneema® from Badinotti early this year.
André van Wageningen, market segment manager Commercial Fishing for DSM Dyneema, who will be available for discussion during AQUA SUR commented, "DSM Dyneema recognizes the importance of Chile for the aquaculture industry and is committed to providing netting material solutions that genuinely enhance the value to fish farming companies. Our approach of collaborating closely with our customers - and the fish farmers - plays an important role in the development of ever tougher, more economic and reliable netting applications."
DSM Dyneema was recognized for their efforts in innovation in the aquaculture industry by the Nor-Fishing Foundation last August at the Aquanor event. One such example is the company's collaboration with Micanti who manufacture a non-toxic antifoulant for aquaculture netting branded as Thorn-D®. Results in Europe with this innovative product have been very successful, and preliminary trials in South America have been promising.
