DSM DYNEEMA MAINTAINS HIGH IP VIGILANCE AT MILIPOL

PARIS (FR), November 18, 2009 - DSM Dyneema, inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™ maintained its policy of vigilance and high alertness for potential intellectual property infringements at Milipol, (Paris, France, November 17-20). In addition, DSM Dyneema sales and technical experts, legal and IP representatives actively scanned the show for signs of potential infringements. The company has confirmed that it handed over three warning letters to prevent potential infringements on its patents.

“Exhibitions (like Milipol) bring a host of international manufacturers and sellers together in one place and occasionally we identify companies that can give us cause for concern regarding our IP rights. Whenever we identify any such activities, we provide immediate notice to potential infringers, and we are absolutely resolute in our intent to pursue and clamp down on infringements,” stated Robert Smulders, Business Manager Life Protection, DSM Dyneema.

The DSM Dyneema patent portfolio consists of well over 100 inventions protected by over 500 filed patents and patent applications worldwide and is continuously expanding all the time.

The company has a strong track record of successful IP litigation actions around the world, such as in The Hague (NL) in 2004, Paris (FR) in 2006, Texas (US) in 2008 and most recently Belgium (March 2009) which have all resulted in court rulings forbidding the sale of infringing products in their respective countries or regions.

“Innovation and intellectual property drive our business and we invest heavily in protecting our IP rights in all markets and business segments in which we are active,” added Robert Smulders.
