DSM Dyneema courts bloggers for rigging competition

Skippers on performance cruisers can have their boats rigged for free if they take part in a new blogging competition organized by high-strength fiber maker DSM Dyneema. “If you are one of the 40 skippers selected to join the 2011 Dyneema® Experience Team, we will re-rig your boat together with our partners, at our cost, with ropes made with Dyneema®,” says Marcel Alberts Global Marketing Manager Yarn at DSM Dyneema. “All we ask is that you put the rigging through its paces, and tell the sailing world how you get on with it via social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.”

The most active blogging skipper in the team will also qualify for a master class with a friend on one of the Volvo Ocean Race Yachts just before the round-the-world race starts in Alicante, Spain, next October.

“We want to make this fun for everybody,” says Marcel Alberts. “We’re not looking for professional writers, expert bloggers, movie directors or photographers. We are just looking for people who love sailing and enjoy sharing their experiences with others.” Full details about the competition can be found at www.dyneemaexperience.com.

Dyneema® fiber has proven to be highly versatile for a wide range of products used by the yachting world. The combination of high performance and durability makes it the ideal material for running rigging for performance cruisers, as well as for professional sailors. Lines made with Dyneema® are incredibly light, strong, smooth, and exceptionally easy to handle.

About DSM Dyneema

DSM Dyneema is the inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. Dyneema® is an Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) fiber that offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 15 times stronger than quality steel and up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, both on weight for weight basis. Dyneema® is an important component in ropes, cables and nets in the fishing, shipping and offshore industries. Dyneema® is also used in safety gloves for the metalworking industry and in fine yarns for applications in sporting goods and the medical sector. In addition, Dyneema® is also used in bullet resistant armor and clothing for police and military personnel.

UHMWPE fiber from DSM Dyneema is produced in Heerlen (The Netherlands) and in Greenville, North Carolina (U.S.A.). DSM Dyneema is also a partner in a high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) manufacturing joint venture in Japan.
