DSM Dyneema social media competition in full sail
At just about the halfway stage, DSM Dyneema’s campaign to recruit 40 sea-faring skippers to test rigging made with Dyneema® and share their experiences online through social media is picking up a high response. 300 skippers so far have registered, with over 2,000 crewmembers and almost 700 Facebook fans following the competition.
DSM Dyneema, makers of Dyneema® light weight and ultra high strength fiber, are offering to rig performance cruiser boats for free for all the skippers selected to take part in the competition.
“We are going to select an elite team of 40 skippers from all the registered entrants to join the 2011 Dyneema® Experience Team, and together with our partners we will re-rig their boats for free with ropes made with Dyneema®,” says Marcel Alberts Global Marketing Manager Fiber Solutions at DSM Dyneema. “It’s about getting people who really love sailing involved in a fun competition and really put the rigging made with Dyneema® to the test on the open seas.”
There is still one month left to register before the closing date of March 4th. Full details about the competition can be found at www.dyneemaexperience.com.
Erik Ph. G. Solberg, sailing enthusiast and early registrant, from Norway comments: “This campaign is like a successful sailing race: well prepared crew, the right gear, full speed over the line, the best strategic decisions, deadly tactical 'knock-outs', neat mark-roundings, right mix of sail combinations, great sportsmanship, hilarious surfs, smiling, but hard fighting participants and happy winners collecting great prizes.”
“All we ask is that skippers get online and share their views and experience with the sailing world via social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr,” says Alberts.
The most active skipper on social media will also qualify for a master class with a friend on one of the Volvo Ocean Race Yachts just before the round-the-world race starts in Alicante, Spain, next October.
Dyneema® fiber has proven to be highly versatile for a wide range of products used by the yachting world. The combination of high performance and durability makes it the ideal material for running rigging for performance cruisers, as well as for professional sailors. Lines made with Dyneema® are incredibly light, strong, smooth, and exceptionally easy to handle.
