PROTECTIVE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS INTRODUCES CUT- RESISTANT GLOVES WITH DYNEEMA® SPUN YARN

Second generation cut-resistant gloves improve comfort, fit and feel

URMOND (NL), 12 October, 2007 - Protective Industrial Products, Inc. (PIP), a leading manufacturer of gloves for hand protection, has introduced its second generation of cut-resistant gloves using new spun yarns from DSM Dyneema. The new gloves made with Dyneema® spun yarns are available from PIP with or without coatings. The gloves can be laundered repeatedly, even with bleach, to extend their wearable useful lives.

“These new Dyneema® spun yarns provide improved comfort, fit and feel over other cut-resistant gloves in the market today”, said Joseph Milot, Jr., Product Manager, PIP. “This extension to our range of protective gloves means we can now cover practically all uses where cut-resistant gloves are required, and enhance our ability to serve our customers”, he added.

Dyneema® high performance polyethylene fiber, manufactured by DSM Dyneema, is 15 times stronger than quality steel on an equal weight basis. Gloves made with Dyneema® protect hands against a wide range of mechanical and cut hazards, and at the same are exceptionally comfortable to wear. Dyneema® spun yarns feel softer than cotton and enable better air circulation, which reduces irration caused by sweating or itching. High abrasion and chemical resistance undiminished by repeat washings, coupled with greater comfort over longer periods extends the life of the gloves and reduces replacement cost.

“DSM Dyneema is delighted with the new PIP cut-resistant gloves made with Dyneema® spun yarns and the collaboration we enjoy with PIP under the licensee program. We are committed to supporting glove manufacturers such as PIP in developing innovative products, new application possibilities and joint marketing activities”, said Henri Oeseburg, Business Manager Cut Resistance DSM Dyneema.
