FISHING LINES WITH DYNEEMA® – DON’T BE REELED IN BY ANYTHING LESS
The Netherlands, June 20, 2011 - DSM Dyneema is launching a new brand licensing program to offer fishing line quality assurance to anglers and fishermen.
Recently, DSM Dyneema selected of a number of leading braiding companies as Premium Manufacturing Partners in Europe to ensure the products they provide are based on Dyneema®, the Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber manufactured by DSM. Fishing line brands supplied by these manufacturers can also join the program via a license application process and then carry the Dyneema® brand on their products.
DSM has analyzed some lines on the market claiming to contain 100% braided HMPE fibers, only to discover the content is actually just 50% HMPE fiber. “This has an enormous influence on the performance and quality of the fishing lines and was evidence for us that a quality statement was required,” explains Noud Steffens, Marketing Manager at DSM Dyneema. “The fishing line industry is very fragmented, with many braiders, importers and brands and it is sometimes very difficult to understand who is doing what and what products are really of the required quality.”
Several key braiders are already Premium Manufacturing Partners and their excellent manufacturing capabilities and reputations for consistent quality have been acknowledged.
“We’d like to extend an invitation to other key manufacturers in the field to work with us as Premium Manufacturing Partners, in order to guarantee fully-satisfied customers,” adds Steffens.
DSM is determined to make a clear distinction between fishing lines that contain genuine Dyneema® and do what they promise and those that do not – and may even be infringing on DSM’s patents and trademark.
Over the past few years DSM Dyneema has enjoyed tremendous success in building the reputation of Dyneema® together with its partners. These companies represent the very top names in their industries – from safety gloves to orthopaedic devices and from lifting ropes to ballistic vests. DSM is pleased to now extend this service to fishing line manufactures and brands.
Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™, is also incredibly versatile. Its low specific gravity also makes it ideal for lightweight solutions. In fishing lines, this translates to such benefits as easy handling and effortless casting, reduced drag and bending ability and the keenest sensitivity.

About DSM Dyneema
DSM Dyneema is the inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. Dyneema® is an Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) fiber that offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 15 times stronger than quality steel and up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, both on weight for weight basis. Dyneema® fiber floats on water and is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals. The applications are therefore more or less unlimited. Dyneema® is an important component in ropes, cables and nets in the fishing, shipping and offshore industries. Dyneema® is also used in safety gloves for the metalworking industry and in fine yarns for applications in sporting goods and the medical sector. In addition, Dyneema® is also used in bullet resistant armor and clothing for police and military personnel.
UHMWPE fiber from DSM Dyneema is produced in Heerlen (The Netherlands) and in Greenville, North Carolina (U.S.A.). DSM Dyneema is also a partner in a high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) manufacturing joint venture in Japan. Further information on DSM Dyneema is available at www.dyneema.com.
