New ECMSA Events explore Accessing and Actioning Competitive Intelligence

Competitive Intelligence in Action

28 and 29 September 2005

The Belfry, Birmingham, UK

Chemical industry players will be brought up to date on best practice and new techniques in Competitive Intelligence (CI) at a two-day management briefing and interactive workshop in September at one of the best known venues for focused and intense competition, the Belfry near Birmingham.

Home to major golf tournaments, the Belfry is the venue on the 28th and 29th September for another major ECMSA collaborative event targeted at the chemical industry.

ECMSA (the European Chemical Marketing and Strategy Association) is a not-for-profit industry organisation that brings together decision makers responsible for shaping and defining the industry’s future.

The competitive scene for European chemical companies has changed beyond recognition in a few short years, to remain successful and profitable participants need to be able to use CI effectively.

“In Europe today there are not just the regional companies and global integrators, but also new competitors from emerging economies,” ECMSA president, Fred du Plessis, says.

“As we enter their markets, they seek to penetrate our own. In Europe, companies are competing for share when market growth is often negligible. How, therefore, can companies make money in this environment and how can first class Competitive Intelligence help deliver this goal? adds du Plessis.

“At this management briefing and interactive workshop we aim to show participants how leading companies in our industry and beyond have used Competitive Intelligence effectively and profitably”.

The latest thinking in Competitive Intelligence will be outlined at the Management Briefing on the 28th September, including how CI has been successfully developed in delegates’ companies. Key speakers will include: Monika Giese, head of global strategic competitive intelligence with F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd; Bob Fowler, global market intelligence Dow AgroSciences and Andrew Pollard from EMP Intelligence Service; plus speakers from Thames Water and Global Trade Information Services. The session ends with a panel discussion and an opportunity to ask the experts your own questions.

An Interactive Workshop, run by well-known CI practitioner, Andrew Pollard of EMP Intelligence Service on 29th September will look at how companies can make money by competing more effectively and take more money from competitors by retaining current customers and winning new clients.

Pollard will bring delegates up-to-date with the significant advances in CI practice made over the past few years. His workshop will identify key components of a successful CI system drawn from a wide range of industries.

It will address how CI can be applied throughout an organisation and how its success can be both measured against the bottom line and the expectations of senior managers.

Common assumptions made what successful Competitive Intelligence should look like will be challenged. The workshop will deal with "real life" and not theory and promises to be an enjoyable and highly stimulating day for the delegates.

Full details of the workshop can be found on www.ecmsa.org.

Bookings can be made on-line at www.ecmsa.org/events or by contacting Barbara Ginter at ECMSA in the Netherlands on +31 70 312 39 26. Spaces are limited at this event and we would advise you to book early to avoid disappointment.
