ECMSA organises innovative conference on commercialising innovation in the chemical industry
Profiting from Innovation - 2-3 February 2006 – Barcelona
This innovation conference, organised by ECMSA in co-operation with AIQS, focuses on the actual experiences of companies in the chemicals, plastics and related industries that have succeeded in commercialising new ideas in the market profitably.
Globalisation of the chemical industry, particularly in the past 15 years, has meant that the competitive scene for the industry has changed beyond recognition. A consequence of this change has been the rapid commoditisation of chemicals. In order to meet this challenge, and sustain growth and profitability in the industry, chemical companies have been forced to re-think their approach to innovation.
The conference also sets out to explore processes, concepts, models and tools that have been proven to work and will also examine some novel ideas and approaches to commercialising chemicals innovations.
The two day programme will be opened by José Montilla, Spanish Minister of Industry, Tourism Commerce and Francisco Belil, President of FEIQUE and Bayer Hispania. The case studies are arranged into 3 sessions:
Innovating in Commoditising Markets
In the first session speakers from Dynasol (the Repsol YPF Joint Venture), Kline & Company, Univar Iberia, and The Boston Consulting Group will present their experiences in the tough market for commodities. In a world where rapidly advancing technology leads to commoditisation, commercial success requires engaging with the challenges brought by commodity businesses, while implementing a sound programme of technology and innovation management.
Innovating with People/ Process
Creating more effective R&D cultures for innovation is one of the subjects in this second session. Representatives from WinOvations, Dow Automotive, Dow Corning, Rohm & Haas, and Industrias Titan will share their views followed by a round table discussion.
Innovating with Customers
The second day starts with a session on innovating together with customers. Chemical development departments in small and medium sized pharmaceutical companies are increasingly turning to outsourcing to reach their objectives on time and at reasonable cost. A range of companies from Spain and throughout Europe will participate in this session: L’Oréal,, Almirall Prodesfarma, KH Lloreda, 3M, Harris Interactive, and DuPont Titanium Technologies.
Innovation: The External Perspective and Experience
The final session adds the external perspective to this subject. How to get innovations to the market? To what extent does market structure determine the innovation activities of firms? These and other questions will be dealt with by speakers from Degussa, CERAM Sophia Antipolis, ISDIN, and Evelyn Moeck.
Full details of the conference can be found on www.ecmsa.org.
