EMG expands in Asia-Pacific with opening of Shanghai office
The Netherlands, Bergen op Zoom, September 2004 – The European Marketing Group (EMG) has announced the opening of a representative office in Shanghai, China as part of a strategy to strengthen its international operations.
Known as EMG China, the office is set to support a number of key EMG customers' commercial activities in the region.
Greg Farrett, EMG’s CEO, will personally be overseeing this strategically important development for the business and he plans to be visiting Shanghai on a regular basis until the operation is well-established.
Speaking from Shanghai, Greg said “For some time now EMG has serviced clients with interests in China and Asia Pacific. Most recently we managed a significant product launch in the region for one of our major European clients. China presents both EMG and our client base with real growth opportunities, and to continue to service our clients we need to be here – combining our international capability with local expertise and specialist knowledge.”
He added: "As new businesses move into China almost daily, we see that there is a growing need for effective business-to-business communications with measurable results. EMG China sets out to meet that need."
EMG operates strategic partnerships in the region, but sees its new office in Shanghai as complementary to the informal network already in place. Greg Farrett stated “There’s no conflict here, we see this development as a step to working closer with our associates.”
EMG China is established in Shanghai and located on the 16th floor of the prestigious Majesty Building in Pu Dong, a prime commercial area of Shanghai. The office will be inaugurated on 16 September 2004.
Key appointments include Jacky Cheng as General Manager and Gloria Wu as Account Executive.
Jacky Cheng joins EMG from Ringier Trade Publishing, the international publishing operator headquartered in Switzerland. He is well known in the local Shanghai media community as Editor of three major Ringier publications in the plastics & chemicals sectors – International Plastics Materials News for China, International Pharmaceutical Processing & Packaging News for China, and Rubber World for China.
Jacky holds a Masters degree in Inorganic Chemistry from Tongji University, which has obvious relevance to a large portion of the EMG client base in the polymers & chemicals sectors.
Gloria joins from Shanghai Total Flavoring Food Co, which operates primarily in the food, beverage and cosmetics market. She studied Journalism, Advertising & PR at Fudan University, she also holds a degree in Political Science.
Commenting on the appointments, Greg Farrett said ‘These appointments make EMG China a reality – we now have our first two key personnel in posts with specialist local knowledge to complement our international team.’
