Tom Dixon in partnership with Eastman: Introducing “the Screen” made with Provista sheet from Eastman Specialty Plastics

World renowned product and furniture designer Tom Dixon has introduced “the Screen”, a multi-functional divider for use in offices and workspaces. The Screen, which was first seen as a prototype at the Milan Furniture Fair, consists of a number of panels made from Provista sheet, made from Provista copolymer produced by Eastman Specialty Plastics.

Available in single-colour or multi-colour applications, the Screen can be adapted to meet the specific needs of its environment and can be positioned to act as a functional and aesthetic divider of spaces.

The Screen was developed in partnership with Eastman Specialty Plastics. Key considerations for the use of Provista sheet were the material’s clarity and richness of colour as well as its ease of processing.

Tom Dixon also announced that his newly launched company which bears his own name, has partnered with Eastman Specialty Plastics for the development of a new series of products, which focus strongly on plastic innovation.

According to Tom Dixon, Eastman Specialty Plastics produces a series of innovative speciality materials that are particularly suited to the production of design items and furniture: “This partnership will enable the rapid development, prototyping and production of a range of products over the next 12 months.”

Earlier this year, Tom Dixon formally launched a series of new products: the Screen, first seen as a prototype at the Milan Furniture Fair, a Fly Curtain, and a series based upon Tom’s innovative Fresh Fat Plastic technique for hand weaving plastic that has been demonstrated at the British and V&A Museums in London as well as in Tokyo, Milan, Frankfurt, Melbourne and Sydney.

Tom Dixon’s new enterprise has been set up both to carry out product and interior design projects for its clients and to develop and distribute a series of innovative furniture and house wares under Tom’s creative direction. Since its inception at the beginning of 2002, Tom Dixon has designed products for a series of clients including Cappellini, Magis, Moroso, De Vecchi, Salviati, Swarowski, and Dune amongst others. Tom Dixon is also currently working on an interior project for Sheikh Saud of Qatar that is currently being shown at the Biennale in Venice.

Tom Dixon commenced his career as a designer maker in the early 1980s working in recycled metal. Since then he has worked across a series of different material types, being particularly well known for his S-chair designed for Cappellini and the rotationally moulded Jack Lamp that gained the Millenium Mark for great British design in 1998. In 1997 Tom joined the UK furniture retailer, Habitat, where he is now Creative Director. He was awarded the OBE for services to British Design in 2000.
