Eastman Increases Specialty Plastics Prices

Eastman Chemical Company has announced a global increase in the prices of its specialty plastics products effective May 1, 2003. A price increase of US$0.07 per pound (US$0.15 per kilogram) will affect competitive prices for DuraStar polymer, Provista copolymer, Eastar copolyester, Ecdel elastomer, Eastalloy polymer, Eastman copolyester, Eastapak polyester, Eastapak polymer and Spectar copolyester. This increase will include all color concentrates and additives.

The company said the price increases are due to higher raw material costs.

“World events in 2003 have led to marketplace uncertainty and introduced significantly increased manufacturing costs,” according to Phil Griswold, vice president of Eastman Specialty Plastics. “The May 1 increases are necessary to support our commitment to our customers to be a strong and stable supplier of specialty plastics.”

Eastman’s copolyester resins are used to injection mold medical devices; appliance parts; consumer items, including sporting goods and toys; furniture and pens. They are also used in manufacturing point-of-purchase displays and for profile extrusions.
