Eastman announces EB062 as new addition to The Glass Polymer™ portfolio for cosmetic, personal care packaging

The Glass Polymer offers a thick-walled alternative to glass, provides outstanding clarity, toughness and design flexibility

Eastman Chemical Company has introduced EB062, the latest addition to The Glass Polymer™ portfolio. EB062 is a breakthrough resin offering a thick-walled alternative to glass without having to sacrifice clarity and chemical resistance for design freedom.

“It used to be that cosmetic brand owners who wanted to design a transparent bottle had few alternatives for the material selection,” says Vincent Gugumus, global market development manager, personal care/consumer care, Eastman. “Most plastic material alternatives solved some of these needs, but with severe limitations for the design’s wall thickness. EB062 is specifically developed for extrusion blow molding this thick-walled material, without sacrificing qualities such as water-clear clarity, excellent chemical resistance and ease of processing, and therefore, it creates new possibilities for cosmetic packaging design.”

EB062 has a look and feel close to glass, yet is lighter and are even more resistant to breakage than other conventional plastic material alternatives. EB062 allows for the production of complex and sophisticated shapes, as well as more than 75,000 different color combinations.

EB062 offers toughness and shatter-resistance while enabling exceptional light transmission rates – above 90 percent – when the material is converted into a container.

For the brand owner, this product and technology helps attract consumers with new designs that would have either been impossible before or more expensive to produce with glass or other plastics materials. Its crystal clarity attribute lets a product stand out from its competitors, helps consumers clearly see the product, and reassures potential buyers of the product’s high-quality.

“The availability of EB062 for the cosmetic and personal care industry further strengthens our commitment to providing brand owners the ability to make clear plastic applications without having to sacrifice clarity for design freedom,” adds Gugumus.
