PR Professionals Donate Work to Support United Nations’ Fight Against Hunger in the World

PR and Communications Agencies in the global Eurocom Worldwide alliance have agreed to work on a pro-bono basis for United Nations World Food Programme

Rome, Italy - June 6, 2005 - Eurocom Worldwide, the Global PR Network, has volunteered to work for the United Nations' World Food Programme as a pro bono communications partner supporting WFP's fight against world hunger. A select group of communications agencies in Eurocom Worldwide are already cooperating with a particular focus on Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns. The agencies have decided to donate their work to WFP as a sign of their support for the objectives of the World Food Programme.

Since the beginning of 2005 Eurocom Worldwide member agencies in Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, United Arab Emirates and United States have worked together with WFP to shape the event. In some cases Eurocom Worldwide members from additional countries will undertake related activities.

The main objective of the partnership is to promote "Fight Hunger: Walk the World" event, which takes place in over 90 countries on June 12 this year. The annual event, organized jointly with TNT, global provider of express, logistics and mail, aims to raise awareness and funds to end child hunger by 2015.

In over 200 cities, the event will remind people of the heartrending fact that in a world which produces more than enough food for everyone, some 18,000 children die of hunger daily. Another 300 million children suffer chronic hunger; 100 million do not attend school.

"The humanitarian efforts of WFP are dependant on recognition from the public. This in turn depends on well executed communications supporting the campaign and we are immensely thankful for the support and devotion we are receiving from the member agencies of Eurocom Worldwide. This is a generous contribution from which WFP will benefit enormously," said Arlene Mitchell "Fight Hunger: Walk the World" director.

"Eurocom Worldwide and its member agencies have built considerable skill and expertise in Public Relations and media campaigns across multiple countries on a shoe-string budget, which we are happy to put to good use for WFP. We are proud that what we do can be used to promote a cause as noble as fighting world hunger," said Eurocom Worldwide Network Director, Mads Christensen.

The collaboration was initiated in January 2005 and is being managed by the WFP headquarters in Rome, Italy, in cooperation with the involved Eurocom Worldwide member agencies.
