GE Advanced Materials Launches Line of Silbreak* Demulsifiers for Quick, Clean Separation of Crude Oil
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — April 11, 2005 — The global thirst for energy, and specifically crude oil, continues to grow, and as the cost and availability of this precious resource increases, oil companies are under pressure to find new sources and technologies to enhance production yields. To help, GE Advanced Materials has launched the Silbreak* silicone product offering, a new demulsifier technology that may enable the oil industry to exploit sources of crude that were once considered economically unattractive.
Long under-explored, the science of crude oil demulsification is now gaining momentum, and GE’s new family of silicone-based Silbreak demulsifiers offers tangible benefits to end users, such as:
• A higher speed of separation than competitive offerings;
• More complete separation, reducing the salt content of separated crude;
• A leaner, sharper interface between the crude and water phases, resulting in dryer crude oil and cleaner water;
• Durable, long-lasting performance; and
• A potentially more competitive cost/performance ratio than many competitive products.
Silbreak demulsifiers may offer new options for customers to differentiate their product offerings, access new fields, and obtain improved levels of performance from the crude they obtain.
“GE Advanced Materials recognizes the emerging challenges and opportunities for crude oil demulsification,” said S.J. Hull, leader of field market development, Oil & Gas, GE Advanced Materials. “And we are committed to developing a range of superior demulsifiers to meet these challenges and maximize the competitiveness of our customers.”
GE Advanced Materials anticipates increased use of Silbreak demulsifiers in many areas where customers need quick, clear separation of two phases such as water and oil (for example mineral oil, silicone oil, or crude oil).
