VIKO switches illuminate the market with Cycolac* Visualfx* resins

VIKO of Turkey selects Cycolac* Visualfx* aesthetic resins for their high-end wall-switch frames adding atmosphere to home and office.

Cost reduction, product differentiation and impact resistance are the key drivers in VIKO’s selection of materials for electronic wall switch frames. The innovative design of the Carmen Plus family of switch frames creates harmony with its surroundings in both family homes and public buildings. VIKO chose Cycolac* Visualfx* resin as its optimal aesthetic solution to frame its most recent line of high-end electronic wall switches.

GE Advanced Materials makes customized aesthetic looks for enlightening applications.

“Cycolac Visualfx resin is an ideal addition to the Carmen Plus wall switches product line”, says Mr. Korkut Avci, R&D director for VIKO.

In the world of architecture, design and aesthetics play a key role in the success of any application in domestic, office, or public buildings.

For one of their prominent product lines, VIKO was looking for a material solution that could easily help create a distinguished look for this particular product line. “The challenge was to be flexible in applying different looks to the Carmen Plus, whilst using existing tools.” Mr. Korkut Avci continues.

“The support we got from the GE Advanced Materials staff while visiting the Customer Innovation Center in Bergen op Zoom quickly brought us the needed solution”.

The switch materials have to perform in several application tests, as during end use, wall switches have to meet several electric and building regulations. In their lifetime, wall switches are continuously exposed to mechanical handling and regular cleaning cycles and must be made of a reliable, flame retardant and impact resistant material. Visualfx Cycolac grade FXS620ST was selected especially for its high impact properties and unique stone like aesthetics. Another feature that helped in selecting this material is that it is an excellent candidate for 2K molding.

The distinctive look of Cycolac Visualfx resin switch frames also contributes to the exclusive look of the internal aesthetics of buildings.

Cycolac Visualfx provides an outstanding materials solution to create different switch frame parts for the Carmen Plus product line without having to go through costly painting steps.

“Apart from that, the flexibility that GEAM is offering in terms of small lot custom color deliveries is exemplary”, states Mr. Korkut Avci.

Cycolac resin’s ability for 2K molding helps save time in reducing the amount of tooling changes and investment needed while reaching optimal flexibility in color. Its color and appearance thereby add to the aesthetic presentation sought by customers.

VIKO, a leading producer of switches and sockets in Turkey, was founded in 1980. VIKO exports around 40% of its products to 47 countries. They are active in the markets of transmission, utilization, distribution and facilitating the provision of the electrical energy both in domestic and international markets.
