GE Plastics Acknowledges Key Partnerships with European Logistics Services Providers at Annual Awards Ceremony
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — May 15, 2007 — Highlighting the critical role of its logistics partners in delivering excellent customer service during 2006, GE Plastics honored five companies and two individuals at an awards ceremony and dinner here on April 12. The awards program, now in its fourth year, recognizes the quality, service, and on-time delivery exhibited by logistics services providers that enable GE Plastics to meet its commitment to customers.
Eric Hopstaken, European Logistics Manager for GE Plastics, stated, “This year marked a number of key improvements in streamlining our logistical processes to improve quality and service. The success of this effort would not have been possible without the dedication of our logistics partners. GE Plastics is one of only a few companies that honor logistical services providers. We salute and thank the winners of the 2006 awards, who play a vital role in delivering materials quickly, reliably, and efficiently to our customers.”
The 2006 Logistics Service Provider Award winners are:
- Overall Logistics Service Provider of the Year: Van Den Bosch, The Netherlands - recognized for bringing added-value logistical services to GE’s Bergen op Zoom site, above and beyond what is expected of transport excellence and accuracy. In addition to the precise handling, storage, and management of each container the company comes in contact with, they continually set a very high safety and quality standard, are customer focused, and have quality improvement projects running on a regular basis.
- Road Freight Forwarder of the Year: CAPPIO, Italy - recognized by customers, who have reported huge performance improvements in quality, service, and on-time delivery and specifically, delivery performance into the UK by CAPPIO throughout 2006.
- Ocean Freight Forwarder of the Year: Tansmarcom, Belgium - recognized for the second year in a row for surpassing last year’s superb track and trace performance, customer clearance formalities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to tie into GE’s network and links with customer service.
- Silo Freight Forwarder of the Year: PAÑALON, Spain - recognized for their excellent delivery of finished goods and raw materials to GE’s BoZ plant with absolute reliability, flexibility, on-time delivery, and response to unexpected site needs.
- Logistics Person of the Year (tie)
Syd Watson of Davies Turner, UK - recognized for out-of-the-box thinking and outstanding customer focus during the past four years. As an example, when one forwarder was unable to supply trailers, Watson stepped in and found a solution within a couple of hours that facilitated an extra 100 tons of sales for the business.
Cristobal Navarro of Quimicas Meroño, Spain - recognized for providing proactive solutions quickly and efficiently to problems as they arise at the Cartagena plant, often times preventing significant production loss.
Winners were chosen by the entire GE Plastics’ Logistics team, including manufacturing, based upon stringent criteria, including delivering damage-free materials on time, at the right location, and in the right quantity; and proactive communication to the supply chain and GE Plastics’ customers.
Peter Van den Eijnden, GE Plastics’ European Supply Chain Director, said, “Customers first see the truck, then the packaging, and then our product, so forwarders have a big impact on the first two observations about our company.”
