GLS TO EXHIBIT NEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE TPE PRODUCT LINES AT CHINAPLAS 2008
Global TPE Leader’s Technology Advancements Help Customers Comply with Increasingly Stringent Regulatory Mandates
Shanghai, China. – April 7, 2008 – GLS Corporation, which was recently acquired by PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), is a global leader in the manufacture of high-performance, custom-formulated thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) and will be showcasing its latest advancements in TPE technology in Hall 2, booth # W2J11, at Chinaplas 2008 from April 17 – 20 in Shanghai. These new GLS products were developed to help customers comply with a variety of current and upcoming regulations while delivering top performance and design flexibility. They include:
•VERSAFLEXTM CL E95, a new phthalate-free, plasticizer-free TPE.
•OnFlex™-S HF FR TPE-S compounds, a new family of halogen-free, flame-retardant materials.
“One of the most difficult challenges for manufacturers is ensuring compliance with the growing array of regulatory requirements covering health, safety, environmental protection, and other areas,” said Walter Ripple, senior director, global sales & marketing for GLS. “To help relieve customers of this compliance burden, particularly for products sold globally, we are developing TPEs that meet those key regulatory standards. At the same time, we are continually improving their performance and versatility to support new applications.”
GLS’ new VERSAFLEX CL E95 TPE product line – developed to eliminate plasticizers altogether – addresses recent legislation in the United States and European Union (EU) that limits the use of phthalate-based plasticizers in toys and child care items. This new TPE line also offers a unique balance of superior clarity, low hardness, and excellent flexibility at low temperatures as compared to competitive products.
The new OnFlex-S halogen-free FR TPE-S compounds were developed to address increasing restrictions on the use of brominated and chlorinated flame retardant additives, particularly by the EU’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive. The new grades underscore GLS’ dedication to providing environmentally responsible compounds for OEMs in the consumer electronics, electrical, and automotive markets.
The combination of GLS and PolyOne Corp., a leading global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, offers worldwide customers a dramatically expanded TPE portfolio; enhanced TPE capabilities including innovative, customized product development; full-scale manufacturing; and fast, hands-on technical service and support. In addition to providing standard grades, PolyOne and GLS will customize compounds to meet specific performance and process requirements.
