GREAT LAKES LAUNCHES UNIQUE PHOSPHORUS NITROGEN FLAME RETARDANT, REOGARD® 1000
DÜSSELDORF, Germany – Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced the launch of Reogard® 1000, a new, highly efficient flame retardant for polypropylene.
Reogard® 1000, a phosphorus nitrogen based, intumescent flame retardant, has unique properties allowing it to be melt blendable at polypropylene processing temperatures while actually increasing the heat distortion temperature of the formulated polymer.
Reogard® 1000 is more efficient than other commonly used intumescent flame retardants, a feature that helps to reduce the specific gravity of the polymer and improve physical properties. Reogard® 1000 is also non-blooming, offers good electrical properties, and a reduced tendency to absorb water.
Polypropylene containing the new flame retardant can be processed in standard injection moulding and extrusion equipment. Reogard® 1000 is recommended for use in V-0 polypropylene homopolymers and low polyethylene content co-polymers. Reogard® 1000 is also effective in a number of impact modified polypropylene grades.
The special features offered by Reogard® 1000 now allow polypropylene compounders to extend the potential markets for their flame retarded products.
