GREAT LAKES ACQUIRES NON-STAINING ANTIOXIDANTS BUSINESS FROM FLEXSYS AMERICA
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced it has acquired Flexsys America’s non-staining phenolic antioxidants business that includes process technology associated with Santonox® TBMC, Santovar® TAHQ, and Santowhite® BBMC. Great Lakes will market these products under its established line of Lowinox® non-staining antioxidants, which protect against oxygen degradation and discoloration during processing. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Mark Bulriss, Great Lakes Chairman, President, and CEO, stated, “This deal fits well within our strategy to grow our polymer stabilizers business and immediately expands the customer base for our Lowinox line of non-staining and non-discoloring antioxidants. In addition to illustrating our ongoing commitment to providing quality products for the polymer industry, this acquisition provides additional opportunities to better serve the needs of our customers through increased efficiencies.”
Great Lakes will increase production at its facilities in Catenoy, France, and Waldkraiburg, Germany, to meet the increased demand.
Due to its resistance to thermo-oxidative degradation, the Lowinox line of phenolic antioxidants are suited for use in a wide range of applications from thermoplastics and adhesives to HDPE and LDPE that produce items such as water and gas pipes, high voltage cables, tapes and adhesives, and tire cord.
Through its Polymer Additives division, Great Lakes offers an extensive line of hindered phenolic, phosphite, and thioester antioxidants; UV stabilizers; polymer stabilizer blends; and optical monomers, as well as a full line of bromine-, phosphorus-, and antimony-based flame retardants and other synergists. For more information about these product lines, please visit the Great Lakes Polymer Additives web site at www.pa.greatlakes.com.
This press release contains forward-looking statements involving risks and uncertainties that affect the company’s operations as discussed in Great Lakes Chemical Corporation’s Annual Report on Form 10-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Accordingly, there is no assurance the company’s expectations will be realized.
