GREAT LAKES INCREASES PENTABROMODIPHENYL OXIDE FLAME RETARDANT PRICES

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced that effective for shipments after September 15, 2003, where contracts allow, the company will increase the price for pentabromodiphenyl oxide based flame retardants by 10% in the European region.

The company reports that the new pricing for pentabromodiphenyl oxide-based flame retardants—Great Lakes DE-71™, Great Lakes DE-60F™ Special, Great Lakes DE-61™ and Great Lakes DE-62™—reflects the increased raw material and regulatory costs associated with the product line. These products provide the highest level of flame retardant performance for flexible polyurethane foam applications such as commercial furnishings and automotive foams.
